Mix Tape
I just want to be a part of your family.

I'm not sure if yall have noticed, but I HIPSTER RUNOFF is going to start pushing a 'progressive conservative alternative agenda.' I want 'authentic family values' mixed with 'authentic altness' so that we can strengthen or local scenes, & help every1 feel like they are part of a special movement that is bigger than ourselves.

I want us to reach out to people from our past who we didn't connect with, and even to our parents so that they can understand that we have found a better way to live life. We need more alts in the world, and we need to let them know that they can be a part of the family.

I was particularly touched by an email from an HRO reader who is trying her best to make the world a little bit more alt. She made her mother an authentic Birthday Card.

What can u do 2 make the world a better place?
R u going to make ur family a slideshow in Keynote for Xmas?
R u going to promise 2 make ur mom 1 bloghouse mixtape per month?
Are you going to go around town and hang up meaningful signs typed in Helvetty?
Now that Barry Obammy is Pressy, we have to do more to make sure that we r making the world a better place. If a black man can become President, then I believe every mainstreamer can become alt.

We need more Arts N Crafts funding in our suburban communities 2 fight depression + suicide.

Easter Egg is Fresh To Death

Have you heard Easter Egg? He's from Portland, OR, but I don't think that has anything to do with his sound.
He's more of a product of the post-Girl Talk computer-operated world that is about to saturate the blogosphere.

What makes me appreciate Easter Egg more is that he listed his genre in iTunes as "Hipster Hop." That's about as self-aware as you could ask him to be. I'd say Hipster Hop is kind of like the stuff that you put on when you're around friends who wouldn't know how to appreciate the "Let's Make Love and Listen DFA" riff unless there was some mainstream rap over it.

It's for those nights when you don't want to feel the pressure of thinking you have listen to something revolutionary, and you just want to have some fun. Download his mixtape. It's free, fun, and worth blogging about.

Easter Egg is about to drop a new mixtape, so you might as well get acquainted with his older work.
POUR IT UP is Easter Egg's most recent mixtape. Download it here.

His track "Giving Up Florida" is about as fresh as it gets, in my opinion.

Consequence Mix Tape with DJ Whoo Kid

If you're looking for some rap/ hip hop to add to your music library, this is definitely the mixtape for you. If you rave about the Ratatat Remixes, then you'll definitely enjoy this mixtape.
Consequence is boyz with Kanye West. You've probably heard Consequence on Kanye West's song "Spaceship" off COLLEGE DROPOUT.

In case you want to know why this mixtape is cool within your circle of friends, here is an excerpt from DJ Whoo Kid's Wikipedia Entry:

Based in Queens, he became popular not long after 50 Cent and G-Unit rose to fame. His new fame has enabled him to have his own radio show on New York’s Hot 97 as well as on Sirus Satellite Radio. Because of his close relation the G-Unit group, he was made their official DJ.
On January 15, 2004 DJ Whoo Kid won the award for Best Mixtape DJ at Justo Faison's Eighth Annual Mixtape Awards. He has appeared on magazines such as XXL, Tablist, Mixtape,[citation needed] and many others. He has also released DVDs and a clothing line in Japan.
Whoo Kid's mixtape musical selection tends to lean towards aggressive, New-York flavored gangsta rap, and his show features many new and unheard tunes, often exclusives from the G-Unit Records camp.
