It is so difficult to harvest a buzzband in 2k10. It seems like it takes months and months for bands to 'ripen', making themselves available for a great MP3 harvest. Long gone are the days where a band can exist for less than a week, have 1 blogworthy MP3 and get 'all buzzed about on the Hype Machines.' So many 'Brooklyn-based buzzbands' that all have similar names make it so difficult for fans and bloggers 2 decide 'who is relevant.' Not just who can 'get into the top 20 on hypemachine' (which has become easier than ever due to new algorithms / blogs that are eager to publish mid-level content), but who can elevate their brand to 'top tier indie celebrity status.'
Feel like I have 'evolved' from the constant hunt for bloggable mp3s, looking to be the first to share them, instead taking a chiller route, waiting for bands to 'mature' with at least a sample size of 10-20 mp3s before I 'dive' into their catalog. No longer am I young, and I can't take a risk on an unknown band. I am maturing, growing older, my life is slowing down and I am less likely to take risks, whether it is in my investment portfolio or when it comes to my tastemaking voice.
Really vibing out to Twin Sister now that I 'finally listened 2 them.' Twin Sister seems to have been around 'for a while', but due to underbranding / mis-branding, they may not have been able to 'break thru' and secure a highly relevant fan base which is necessary to continue to get 'authentic coverage' as opposed to riding blurb waves. Maybe I am 'completely wrong' and need to check Billboard to see that they sold hundreds of thousands of units across the world, but this mp3 post serves not only as an opportunity to 'buzz' Twin Sister, but also to comment on the state of blogs as tastemakers for buzzbands.
A new sect of bands has evolved that get lost in blog fodder. It is a communication issue since our eyes and ears are trained to interpret and analyze the blog format without reading text or listening to MP3s, even when content deserve our attention. We have learned to look past annoying banner ads, and now we can look past the actual content. Even Pitchfork wrote some article abt how all blogs look the same, and all bands try to match the vintage aesthetic with their press photos [link]. What has hurt buzzbands in the post-lofi vintage Names that don't stick out. Forgettable videos. 'Being from Brooklyn' [via every other g-d buzzband in the world]. Videos that u can't tell if they are 'fan videos' or 'real videos that represent the brand.'
Really worried we're going to lose out on a few buzzworthy bands in 2k11 if this trend continues. It seems like blog readers and buzzworthy mp3 scavengers have developed 'selective buzz blindness', a term that can be used to describe bands that 'don't look like they are worth checking out.' You
It seems like bands and the 'online banner advertising industry' should have a pow-wow fireside chat round table to discuss how to keep people from 'overlooking' their content
How does a buzzband get your attention? Sex, gifs, and zany band/mp3 names.
Can Twin Sister be 'saved', re-processed thru a more authentic buzz cycle?
Do u think they could have received a 1.0 point boost if they were 'branded' 'correctly'?
Should all bands wait to release their albums on an well-known label and overpay a PR agent who adds 'legitimate value' to ur brand?
Feel like the best strategy for a band with female vocals and an attractive alt singer is to 'brand' the band around the female, even if she doesn't carry much of the artistic load.
Feel like I would rather listen 2 her
instead of this band:
It seems like the lead singer, who is named Andrea Estella, is 'mad indie cute' and should probably be exclusively branded as 'the leader' of the band. Probably make a video with her singing/dancing, altbros can 'oggle' over her, alt girls will 'want 2 be her'/wish they had a unique voice so they could be in a buzzband.
I remember when Beach House sorta had an awkward phase, but then my girl Vicki 'took over' and 'ran shit', carrying that brand 2 new authentic heights using her talent + indie sex appeal.
Just watched Andrea's personal brand 'live' in this lofi rendition of some song.
Bros seem chill, but just trying 2 think about Andrea and then I feel all sausage-festy. Just wanna focus on Andrea, see her face on an album cover, put it up on my wall. Really gotta take down the picture of that lead singer from Glass Candy lady.
What does a buzzband need 2 'break thru'?
Can Twin Sister 'rebound' even though their album cycle is 'long over'?
Do u believe in 'selective buzz blindness'?
Does it take a band 2.5 albums to be 'authentic indie brands'?
Do all buzzbands on the internet 'look and sound the same'?
Can Twin Sister 'get better' and reach Beach House status?
Can u see Andrea Estella being branded as a Victoria LeGrand / Feist / Alice Glass / Bethany Cosentino?
Would it help if we just started calling her Twin Sister, sorta like how every calls Bethany Cosentino 'Best Coast'?
If u were starting a buzzbrand, how would u brand their internet identity to make them memorable?
Will the next era of relevant bands have 'Twin' in their names/should I make a blog post abt them to SEO for the twin wave?
Is Twin Sister's career 'already over' or will they 'evolve' in2 a relevant indie brand that won't die for another 3-5 years?
Can Andrea Estella become the next big indie it girl?
Afraid I'm going 2 lose her
Afraid I'll never get 2 know her if they don't make more buzzworthy mp3s
Afraid I won't have another premium indie front woman in my life if my gurl Twin Sis fades away :-(
Can Twin Sister make 'the leap', brand themselves effectively, and sell mad albums/license their well-written songs in relevant commercials?
2k9 was a special year, not only because of critically acclaimed releases by legacy indie bands, but also because of an 'influx' of new bands/chillwave projects/musicians like the chillwave Indians, Washed Out and the XX. 2k10 has really been a 'buzz drought', and indie fans have 'grown wary' of 'bands that are hyped' after 1.5 mp3s. Such a 'robust' infrastructure for buzzing buzzbands, but hard to know which bands are 'worth taking seriously' on a critical/conceptual level. Honestly have been having a lot of doubts in my personal brand, lost confidence in my ability to 'tastemake buzzbands' and share them with my lesser-connected friends. Slowly realized that it's 'not me'--it's 'the system' 'failing us.'
2k10 has been a 'complex' year. We've seen large scale indie bands release hella 'meh' albums. At the same time, we've grown a little bit distrustful of chillwave + lofi artists, wondering if they are 'authentic musicians after seeing them live' 4 the first time. Such high expectations to earn our consumer trust in 2k10. Feel like the 'demand for musicianship/high production value' has risen in 2k10, searching for a 'series of complete mp3s' instead of auto-glorifying a band that sort of 'lucked' into creating 1 high-listenable mp3 in Ableton.
Twin Shadow 'seems chill' and has been 'brought to market' with a series of MP3s, giving indie blog buzz fans a 'better chance' of talking themselves into his product after sampling 8-15 mp3s. In addition, his video 'makes u kinda 90s hornie [via Calvin Klein]', so u can get into the conceptual nostalgic images of youth.
Modern indie consumers view buzzbands sorta like a harvestable crop that will 'continue giving' all year long. You need a stream of mp3s, live date opportunities, conceptual music videos, plus 'the illusion of growth' to make the internet audience feel 'satisfied'/emotionally invested. [via the >Memefication of ur Band Theory]
Wonder if he can ride a new wave of 'ethnic' indie musicians, kinda like Chaz Bundick of Toro Y Moi. Is the era of 'white man's indie' over now that the Arcade Fire went honky-core?
Do u 'buy into' Twin Shadow, or are u wary of anything new?
Are lofi indie consumers being brainwashed into endorsing 'low-end music that actually sux' in order to keep their personal brands 'authentic'?
What 2k10 buzzbands do u 'endorse'? Do they all 'effing suck'?
Do u trust the indie blogosphere any more, or are they too impatient with buzzbands that haven't percolated in an organic manner?
Do u feel 'sad' that Best Coast, WAVVES, and M.I.A. 'hogged' headlines this year?
Do u trust indie blogs as tastemakers any more, or is there too much 3rd rate lofi/chillwave noise?
Is Twin Shadow 'better than Ariel Pink/Neon Indian/Panda Bear solo'?
Do Avey Tare + Panda Bear need to 'step it up' b4 they lose even more market share?
Can Twin Shadow make 'the leap' and create memes that are in high demand by the indie blogosphere?
Can Twin Shadow be 'successful' because they provide a wide palette of MP3s that indie blogs can compare to 'whoever the eff they want' (bands + genres)?
What are we going 2 remember abt 2k10?
2k10 has been one of the biggest buzz droughts in the history of the modern blogosphere. We have the infrastructure set up to buzz so hard, hype appropriately, and we even learned how to 'diss' artists in 2k10. Not all about 'positive vibes' any more. We are slowly but surely seeing the TMZification of the modern indiesphere. Since blogs buzzed so many bands so hard, they sorta have to 'regulate' the buzz by being more critical (usually in a generic, predictable way), but this is sorta the only thing that can somewhat preserve 'the voice' of most blogsites.
Even though harsh vibe blogging is now 'mainstream', we're still missing something. We're still missing quality products that inspire authentic 'blog treatment' by blogosphere. Blogs are sorta just 'running in place' in 2k10, since the content has been 'mediocre at best.' Unfortunately, we might not see another quality album during 2k10. We might get 'buzz albums', but it will be difficult 2 tell 'what is buzz' and what has 'universal appeal.'
It seems like we are entering the 'transitioning out' of 2k10 phase. Think Arcade Fire and Panda Bear will release albums, but feel like every1 has already made up their mind on how they will feel about them, so it doesn't even really matter. 2k10 is 'in the books', unless a completely new buzzband and/or genre emerges. We were so fortunate 2 get a bountiful buzzband harvest in 2k9, that it seems mad unlikely that 2k10's harvest will provide us with a similar crop.
I think this new Cut Copy MP3 means that we should just sorta focus on 2k11. 'Go thru the motions' as we end 2k10, but the most exciting news will be bands announcing their 2k11 plans. If 2k10 bands want to be taken seriously, they need to adjust their album cycle to fit in with 'the big guns' of 2k11. If the mp3 buzzosphere can survive, we will need all of the 'most talented artists' to compete head to head in one year, to inspire the most discussion/backlash/authentic buzz possible.
The new Cut Copy song is filled with 'positive vibes' to help us forget about negative wave meme artists like M.I.A. and what a huge letdown 2k10 was. It seems 'strategically created' to sound like what is 'now' and what 'might be next' but also 'pay homage to the past.' Feel like that is what 'fans and critics want to hear.' Always good to hear 'quality mp3s' instead of just talking urself into lofi/chillwave all year.
Feel like I might 'cry from happiness' from this song. Just represents a 'new beginning', a 'clean slate', a 'new hope.' Going to take the hand of Cut Copy and pretend it is 2k11 already.
2k10: h8 u / don't miss u / might learn 2 <3 u some time in the future [via helping me appreciate 2k11]
Are you vibing out to this Cut Copy song?
Are you more pumped about 2k11 with a new Cut Copy release + a possible new AnCo record + chillwave sophomore albums?
Does it sound like something 'refreshing' that we needed 2 recontextualize what it means to be a buzzband?
Is this a candidate for 'song of 2k10' or should it be considered a '2k11 product'?
Are you pumped that 2k10 is 'in the books' and we are sorta moving on?
Can 2k10 be 'saved' or should we just pretend anything 'good' that happens from this point on is part of 2k11?
When we get to January 1, 2011, is there a change that it might be blog year 2k12?
Will you be pissed if MGMT and M.I.A. 'release an album in 2k11' just to ruin chill vibes?
Will Cut Copy's next album help them to surpass Animal Collective as 'the most respected modern indie band' since their songs are probably 'more listenable' / 'more likable' if you look at their catalogs side by side?
Is Cut Copy the 'early frontrunner' for 2k11 Album of The Year?
Have u heard the new mp3 by the Books off their upcoming hit album The Way Out? Have u heard of The Books?
Back in 2005, The Books released some album called "Lost and Safe."
I think it was 'culturally relevant' cuz it was kinda like art + music. From what I understand, they take 'tons of audio samples' then rearrange them to make songs, or something. Sorta like an even more artsy version of the Avalanches or something. "Less poppy." For some reason, I think rearranging audio samples of people talking + miscellaneous sounds was a more marketable meme in 2k5 since indie rock was kinda vanilla, and more indie fans were 'yearning for an conceptual experience.'
Wonder if they were the forefathers of indie sample-based music. It's so weird when a band comes back from hiatus, and they are evaluated with the same scrutiny/critical/socially-aware review system that modern buzzbands have to get run through. Feel like 2k5 was sorta like 'playing tee ball', but 2k10 is 'the mother effing big leagues' of independent music. Buzzbands have to be on their a-games, dropping memes, making sure they stay authentic, or else buzz blogs will shit all over them.
It seems like concept music has come so far in the past 2-3 years. An Co Merriweather Post Pavvy. The chill wave era. Tons of other mediocre concept bands that have garnered critical approval even though their product is kinda mediocre. I feel semi-stimulated listening to the new mp3 "Beautiful People" by the books, but I wonder if my taste is 'so refined' that this doesn't really do much for me any more. Like I need a 360 degree stimulating, socially relevant + aware meme dropping band to fully garner any sort of high level praise from me.
From what I understand, The Books consists 2 bros. One on a cello and another one on guitar. Seems like they really turned their live indie performance into an 'artistic experience.' I wonder if they will 'go mainstream' and sell albums to tweens, or if they are stuck with their same fan base from 2k5.
Back in the day, I feel like I had more time to listen to bands talk about their artistic gimmicks, branding themselves as 'interesting artists/humans' in long interviews. Not sure if I have that kinda time with so many music / ginger / mp3 memes flying around at such a rapid rate. Just need a band to produce some good mp3s, a decent album, a conceptually interesting music video, play some talk shows, play live in my local scene, then I will be happy.
Will The Books release a Top 10 album of 2k10?
What score will the Books album get from Pitchfork?
Do u feel like the Books had it easy, back when the indiesphere wasn't so competitive?
Are bands not conceptually relevant until the headline coachella / have an art show at the Guggenheim?
Do you still enjoy conceptual music, or is chillwave the only sample based music that you choose to enjoy?
Is chillwave the perfect sample based music, and everything else is sorta 'too artsy' and not accessible enough?
Will The Books be overrated in a Broken Social Scene kinda way, making it more difficult to genuinely appreciate their music in an authentic way?
Do the Books have an 'uphill' battle ahead of them by re-entering the indie buzzosphere after a long hiatus?
2k10 has been 'the worst mp3 recession' in the history of the mp3 blogosphere. We are still recovering from the end of the indie era, back when so much 'low level shit' was presented to us, and we were encouraged to 'eat it up' since the modern mp3 blogosphere has an 'excess supply' of mp3s, and blog readers have an 'excess demand' for coverage. There are simply not enough bloggable tracks/bands and a high demand for content. This makes the current model favorable for crappy + mediocre bands.
2k10 has been 'all about' watching mainstream indie band heavy weights battle it out for the largest meme / commercial show cases. Sorta miss the era when 'cherry picking' mp3s was still satisfying, back in the glory days of the hype machine.
From what I have read on Wikipedia, Caribou has 'been around' since the year 2000. This MP3 of "Odessa" has been in the open market for 1 month. I think that I enjoy the song "Odessa" and will possibly let it 'define' Q1 of 2k10 for me. It possibly reminds me of a better / more conceptual version of Yacht, possibly a post-DFA product or something. Maybe this song is 'post-disco', enabling the listener to have a fun, dark time. Not sure if this entire album is 'good' or if they are the type of band who creates a unified album that sounds the same.
Conceptual Video
Does n e 1 know if Caribou is 'authentic'?
Has a 'good, new' band launched in 2k10?
Will we just explore older bands that never got excessively hyped in the past 3 years?
Do yall miss the glory days of mp3 hunting?
When will the ternative era come 2 save us?
Feel so 'guarded'/hesitant when it comes to new mp3s / bands /brands. Afraid of commitment.
It seems like these days, all bands must do whatever it takes to 'generate buzz', even when it means negative coverage that doesn't always strengthen ur brand in a traditional way. I remember when Wavves got popular for being 'the bad boy of indie rock' in 2k9. Sorta weird how even negative memes can help your band stay in the limelite.
Have yall heard the latest mp3 by Justice? Apparently it was a 'hoax' by some1 pretending 2 be Jousteece, but all mp3 bloggers 'jumped on the opportunity' to 'cover' this exclusive track.
Do yall think this sounds like Justice? Is it good/bad for the Justice brand if their music is easy to replicate? Is 'mockery' of their 'unique sound' the 'greatest form of flattery'/sign of brand strength? Can n e 1 with a copy of GarageBand make the same songs that Justice makes? After hearing this song, do u think Justice will produce one of the most memorable albums of 2k10 AND the 2k10 decade?
h8 the internet. So hard 2 believe what is real. Kinda like Balloon Boy. U don't know who to trust. So many secrets. Wish consumers were 'in the know' instead of being subjected to deceptive marketing campaigns.
I feel 'blessed' to be on a mailing list with tons of other relevant MP3 bloggers. Seemed so easy 2 believe that this was a record label emailing me, encouraging me to discuss this mp3. Encouraging me to share the mp3 with the alts of the world.
Can't believe fake Justice 'got all the way to #1 on hypemachine'. So many bands would 'kill' to be the #1 hype machine band in the world, but one zany parody track rode all the way to the top, sort of like an Andy Samberg song.
Sometimes I wonder if mp3 blogs are slaves, and they aren't really in control of their content stream. From what I understand, most of the electroblogs from 2k6-2k8 have given up/focused on dubstep. Not sure which mp3 blogs would even still cover Justice. Wondering if mp3 blogs are still 'good ways to find music', or if they just create a worthless long tail of content.
Do yall know who is behind this 'hoax'?
Will Justice/bangers/bloghouse ever be relevant again?
Should mp3 blogs be held accountable for posting content without proper fact checking?
Did this phantom mp3 sound better than Justice?
Should more bands + PR managers release 'fake tracks' just to get coverage and gauge the consumer reaction to the new product?
Will AnCo/Grizzly Bear/Diplo/M.I.A./the Arcade Fire/MGMT release fake content any time soon?
I remember back in the bloghousish days, there were two electro bands who were 'more than just another blog house electro band.' LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip. I still feel confused by their high level brand and critical acceptance. I think it is because they use 'real synths' or something.
Hot Chip's hit song "Boy From School" is from the year 2k6, possibly the most critical years in the formation of the current indie-perception-sphere, back when the mechanisms for distributing modern 'critical acclaim' were being formed. I think back then, there were still tangible 'barriers to entry' in the indie music industry. Back before 'the Macbook explosion of 2k_.' Never really vibed 2 hard on Hot Chip, but I think I felt pressure to enjoy/appreciate them for a while. Have heard mixed reviews of their live show.
Wonder if this 'chilled out' version of that Hot Chip song by the Grizzly Bear band is more in line with my modern personal brand than the original version of the song. I feel sorta distant from the whole 'electro vibe' these days. Would rather mellow/chill out. Get a little bit vulnerable.
Do u think this cover is 'better than the orig', or has our consumer ear morphed over the past 4 years?
Really just been getting vulnerable, listening to Grizzly Bear. Saw this PSA from New Zealand that utilizes GB tunes, mixed with a cool dad with a beard wishing he could do something for his sick son. Seems 'heavy', like a pants-shitting emotional situation.
Wonder which band from The War of 2k9 will 'sell the most albums' when their next album drops? The xx? AnCo? Neon Injun? Washed Out? Dirty Projjies? Probs GrizzBear.
Apparently the Hot Chip has a new album coming out. Wonder if it will 'skyrocket' 2 #1 on billboard charts like the Vampy Weekend. Probably just in the UK, or some other foreign microscene. Do yall think that their title track 'One Life Stand' is n e good?
Seems like the usual hot chip formula. Lil bleep bloops, lil guy singing, zany video filmed in some conceptual studio.
Still searching for 'a new vibe.' Wanting to 'ease into' 2k10 without getting too consumery [via VampWeek#1]. Might be mildly worried that the new Panda Bear album is going to 'blow' based on the initial live footage/bootlegs. Maybe if it critically flops, we will learn that Avey 'Avatar' Tare is truly the most important member of Animal Collective.
Not sure if AnCo + Panda Bear will ever be able to be taken to 'the mass market' like more traditional bands. Tween parents might associate them directly with drug culture. I think Vampy Weekend/GrizzBear have more appealing back stories because they are associated with groups of bros who united to create something beautiful at a relevant American university. Seems like the 'stay in school' message is important. AnCo might be 'too old' to be 'young adults who set a good example.'
Part of me wishes I could go back to the blog house era, and just have fun again.
Might just listen 2 this song ovr & ovr again. It seems like conceptual Scandinavian electro pop with falsetto bros might 'come back' in 2k10.
Also wanted to give a shout out to MGMT and Arcade Fire in this post. Maybe a lil bit of M.I.A., and some Feist?
Does n e 1 remember the glory days of 2k7-2k8, back when 'remixes' were something to get 'fucking pumped up about' with your bros. Now that they have become such deliberate marketing strategies, it is more difficult to 'get wrapped up in the spirit' of two semi-related artists coming together to create one mp3 that would unite their fan bases, usually in some sort of dancey lil fun thing.
I am feel 'happy' about the opportunity to download this mp3. It seems like NeonIndian/Vega bro might be 'poised' to take over Classixx currently assumed position as 'most bloggable remixer of the era.' Fortunately, he is also a 'live band' so he can overcome the limitations of many 'bedroom producers/synth collectors' who tend to dominate the Remix Economy. It seems like Neon Indian will soon enter the 'Passion Pit' phase of getting 'over-covered' and possibly 'resented', but NeonIndian's potential for non-gimmicky longevity seems 'high.'
Wonder if we are watching another 'legitimate scene member' as he eventually ascends to being covered like 'a real alt celeb who people take seriously.' Kinda weird when altcelebs make 'the leap' from buzzband to 'relevant alt celeb who is covered by blogs even when they take a lil poop.' Might be wrong, and there might be a 'huge ass' backlash against the chillwave era. Artists who were tied to chillwave should 'distance themselves' from the label if they are interested in long term internet sustainability.
Another important thing for a blogger to 'muse about' is the existence of Au Revoir Simone. It seems like after this remix, we can definitively say that the band is best consumed in remix/electro form. While their 'free spirited' girly aesthetic appeals to lil indie girls and altbaguettes who live in an 'alt dream world', it seems hard to consistently empathize with the tone of their songs. This analysis might be 'null and void' since the voice of HRO is 'a huge misogynist' and finds women 'close to impossible' to authentically empathize with.
Have u heard any bloggable mp3s lately, or is the scene 'fucking dry'? (sorta like a college campus during finals when I am trying 2 score some adderall) Ugh. Can't study/concentrate without it. :-(
Last year in indie music has been kinda weird. There has been an emergence a bunch of bands that sound like they are 'in a fuzzy garage,' but I have never really 'understood' why I should like them. Sorta seem like a gimmick, like the Vivian Girls, or like they are meant to appeal to older people or something. Maybe I am growing older and this sound appeals to me, or maybe this is just a middle-market product, somewhere between 'chillwave' and 'fuzzy garagey music with ambient ambient female vocals.' Maybe this is 'chillfuzz.'
It seems like fuzzy garage music is 'structured very simply', meant for purgatory alts to 'bob their heads along to.' This chillfuzz song by the Trailer Trash Tracys seems to have 'huge drums' and 'a meaningful post-pop guitar riff.' Seems like they are an 'actual band' from the UK who might have an easier time performing live than most chillwave producers. (Do ppl from England know what 'Trailer Trash' is, or are they exploiting an American concept?) Not sure if I should compare them to My Bloody Valentine or Sonic Youth or the Jesus and Mary Chain since they seem 'shoegazy'/'vintage.'
The song 'candy girl' seems like it could be called 'haunting' in a formal review. I wonder if this song could be covered by Feist/Regina Spekty and become one of the 'top songs of the year' according to mainstream music critics.
I remember there was a girl who sang on the hit song 'Young Folks' by Peter Bjorn and John. Her name was "Victoria Bergsman" (had to google it). Damn. Can't believe that song was released a blog century ago. The mp3 I posted seem 'pleasant', like I'd put it on my iPod and listen to it while I was studying for my Psych 101 course or something. Or possibly just hear some free-spirited girl say that 'Taken By Trees is her favourite band', or some other far fetched statement like that. Mainly just posted it to talk about YOUNG FOLKS.
Damn. Young Folks. Where were u the first time u heard that song?
Where were u the first time that u got 'pissed' that 'mainstream culture' had found out about the indie gem by the Peter Bjorns and Jean?
Wonder if it is the 'best indie song of the last decade.' Seems important, like it organically gained steam before the 'backlash' occurred. Seems like 'every1 liked it'/'knew about it.' Seems like every1 thought it was meaningful for at least 1 nite.
Seems like Victoria Bergsman might have 'misplayed her career.' She should have tried to ride her viral indie fame to become 'the next Feist' or something, or possibly some1 like Karen O. It seems like she is just content 'settling' for being another conceptual broad, sorta like most of the women in the crowded 'poor man's Bjork' genre. Feel like Bat for Lashes might be in there, along with Kria Brekkan. h8 the genre of underwhelming music by broads that spacey alt female high schoolers identify with 4 no good reason.
Will there ever be another song like 'Young Folks', or will we just have to 'settle' for era-defining songs like 'My Girls'/'Two Weeks'/'Use Somebody'/'Beautiful Day'/'Semi-Charmed Life'/'D.A.N.C.E.'/'Lights and Music'/'Billie Jean'/'One Headlight'/'Free Birds'/'The Boy Is Mine'/'Waterfalls'?
I have never actively listened to a Wavves song, because they seem to be 'too fuzzy' or something. Kinda like the 'garage band aesthetic' that I don't 'get.' However, I listened to his new song 'MICKEY MOUSE' and it made me very confused. It sounded a lot like the band Animal Collective, particularly a song structured by the musical genius Noah 'Panda Bear' Lennox.
Sorta reminds me of 'Peace Bone' mixed with 'Bros' type of structure and hint of 'Reverend Green/Fireworks.' I think the lyrics are talking about 'never wanting to be old', then references some cryptic metaphor about 'a thing in the back of your brain' (science analogy trying to remind u how mortal we are), and then something about your brain telling u that u will 'be safe.' It seems like a very 'simple song', like to the point that you could say it is 'stupid.'
I am not sure why Wavves is converting to the conceptual core aesthetic. Maybe he sees that the live brand that Animal Collective has established, and believes that he can make a longer, more fiscally empowering career if he makes songs that are meaningful, simple looped electronic conceptual core ballads. Probs questions the long term viability of 'fuzzy guitar with droned lyrics.' Feel like he possibly might be 'making fun of every1' for 'liking AnCo', and made this song to say 'this type of song is easy to make, I can shit out a song like this as a joke.' Suddenly felt insecure, like he is making fun of me for wearing a Merriweather Post Pavvy tshirt. Not sure if he just 'deconstructed' the state of the modern indie-musicsphere with this song, or if he is 'trying to break into it.'
Wavves seems to h8 everything.
Seems like he has a 'destructive personality', even though people might call him 'a genius.' Maybe he is a talented, fallen-from-grace bro who is 'searching for something more' out of life/'the arts', and can't help but feel 'disconnected' from the type of ghey rewards/ghey fans that come with 'success' in any sphere of 'the arts.' If I could be a writer for Rolling Stone/SPIN/other dying music mag, I would start constructing a long profile piece, calling him 'The Indie Kurt Cobain' just in case he really is 'trying to leave this Earth.' Would make sure to emphasize that his soul is 'beautiful' and possibly 'misunderstood' even though we continue to hear his name in some what 'destructive' news stories.
I heard that this song is possibly one of the most 'relevant' and 'organically created + released' mp3s of the year. From what I understand, the DeerhunterBro was 'chilling' with the Animal Collective, then Panda Bear (Noah Lenbro) 'taught' DeerBro how to use his lil conceptual music making gadget. Feel like this is 'basically just a new Panda Bear song' or something. Not sure if I really want to say it is an 'Atlas Sound' song, because I feel like I would 'like' it 40% more if it was just 'a Panda Bear song.' I'm not sure what Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/AtlasSound bro) is trying to do, branding-wise. Have honestly never heard Atlas Sound, but would think that he is like some sort of indie rock guitar bro or something. Might be trying to rebrand, and get more on the 'conceptual bandwagon' [via Neon Indian theory].
Seems like this mp3 is 'good' and possibly 'transcendental' in an mp3blog kind of way. Feel like it is a 'good song' but also has too many opportunities to 'namedrop band names' to pass up blogging about it. I think that if you blog about this song, your blogsite will show up when people google "what is a good indie song, yall?"
Can't believe Panda Bear's "Person Pitch" came out in 2k7. Can't believe it is already 2010. Sorta just feel 'overwhelmed' by 2k9, since it was the year of MPP, and I just want to chill to some Panda Bear solo without Avey Tare 'yelling all over the place.' Feel just like this song reminds me of 'back when I didn't have to think so much about conceptual music, and what it meant', and my personal brand could just sort of 'coast' by saying that I like Panda Bear.
Feeling sad that I will soon have 2 turn my back on 'the Panda Bear aesthetic' (probs after his next album is released). Heard Noah Lennox charges like $20K for his solo show. Might get him for my Super Sweet 16.
I remember when Classixx remixed that one Phoenix song called "Lisztomania" and people listened to their version more than the original version. I think that is when they became 'authentic remixers who were highly in demand.' Feel like as time has gone on, there is a 'power rankings' of Authentic Remixers, and if you want your band to be 'relevant', you should pay $1k-$10K to secure a remix by this band. Seems like a better investment than 'buying a huge amp.'
I think that Classixx and Holy Ghost! are both authentic products, but I don't know what they look like/what their live show is all about. Feel okay with them 'just being names on my iPod' as of now.
Remix Chatter:
Industry insiders have relayed information to me saying that Classixx soon has a remix of DFA band YACHT coming out soon. Wonder if that will be as 'in demand' as the Soulwax remix of MGMT's "Kids." Have also heard that VEGA has 'epic' remixes coming out soon that will 'basically be the last great MP3 that electro/mainstream mp3 blogs blog.' Miss the days of getting 'mad pumped up' for a remix/mp3 instead of just feeling entitled to 'good remixes' and a 'decent conceptual mp3' every month. Wonder if MP3 blogs ruined everything. Miss the days of 'driving to a CD store' then being disappointed in your purchase as you listen 2 it on the way home.
I was reading the popular mp3 blog, GuerrilasAndBears, and I came across a song by the lead singer of SIGUR ROS and his ghey lover. They are from Iceland, so they probably 'bond' by doing artistic projects and stuff like that. I listened to this song, and it was 'whatever.' Sorta just thought it might help me reconnect with 'how alive I felt' the first time I heard the SiggyRoos 100 blog years ago.
Then I read the 'description' of the song, and it features a sample by a CASTRATO SINGER. I had to google 'castrato' to see if it was some kewl indie trend:
A castrato is a man with a singing voice equivalent to that of a soprano, mezzo-soprano, or contralto voice produced either by castration of the singer before puberty or one who, because of an endocrinological condition, never reaches sexual maturity. Castration before puberty (or in its early stages) prevents a boy's larynx from being transformed by the normal physiological events of puberty. As a result, the vocal range of prepubescence (shared by both sexes) is largely retained, and the voice develops into adulthood in a unique way. As the castrato's body grew, his lack of testosterone meant that his epiphyses (bone-joints) did not harden in the normal manner. Thus the limbs of the castrati often grew unusually long, as did the bones of their ribs. This, combined with intensive training, gave them unrivalled lung-power and breath capacity. Operating through small, child-sized vocal cords, their voices were also extraordinarily flexible, and quite different from the equivalent adult female voice, as well as higher vocal ranges of the uncastrated adult male.
I guess this is basically saying that castratos are bros who had their peens chopped off so that they could have high voices, then the didn't go through puberty, or something.
I am not sure if we should support 'castrato indie music.' I feel like it is sending the wrong message about 'being alt.' Like you have to do something extreme just to get attention. Some people get body piercings, and other ppl get tattoos, but I don't think that there is ever a reason to mutilate your body just to achieve an aesthetic. I am worried that parents are going to 'castratofy' their children so that they have a better chance of 'making it' in the indie landscape.
Wonder how music would be different if some of my fave indie lead singers didn't have peens.
We really need 2 take a stand, and stop glorifying this horrible trend of castration.
Worried abt kids from Iceland.
h8 trends that harm society, kinda like 'huffing.'
I am listening to the band Spoon. They have a new song, and I think that it 'sounds very good', but I think for the most part they have 'always sounded very good.' I feel like Spoon is a band from 'a long time ago'--like back when teens at the turn of the century were 'deciding to be indie', they often used SPOON as a goto band for 'connecting with 1 another.'
Since then, I think Spoon has 'consistently released a quality product', because I think they are 'good musicians/producers' and I think that the lead singer bro has 'an authentic voice.' For a while, I think I would have called people who like Spoon 'entry level alts', or possibly 'mainstreamers who like maltstream products', but now I think I will just start listening to songs like this, and reflecting on my past. Just don't have enough time on this Earth to h8 on people just because they like bands that a product that 'can appeal 2 any 1.' [via the MGMT theory]
Think I've really grown up a lot, and my taste has really evolved into something very authentic, if I am willing to consider 'shitting upon' Spoon just bc they have 'been around for like 100 blog years.'
Feels like 'the whole mp3 blogosphere has been turned upside down' since MJ died. It's like every mp3 of music since MJ started making music was just trying to be 'as good as MJ', but now that he's dead, we can finally accept that 'no1 will ever be as good as MJ.'
Sorta just wish I could 'make some sort of tribute' to MJ that would 'get my blog more hits.' Think that the internet as a whole has 'benefited' from his death, since we all got 'more hits' and stuff like that. Wonder if he is 'really dead' or if this is some sort of 'gimmick' by Al Gore+John Twitter (founder of Twitter) to 'get more hits.' Think 'hits' are mad important [via ad revenue].
Feels weird that after u die, u go 2 #1 on hypemachine. [via hypemachine death theory] Guess mp3 bloggers finally just said 'all of the indie MP3s I post aren't as good as MJ, so I better honor him with my bloggyspot.'
Can't believe MJ went to #1 on iTunes. I think that means that the tween mainstream market 'didn't really listen 2 him b4 he died' and 'only knew him as some weirdo fuck'
Can't believe ppl spent money 2 buy his albums. Might just invest in some 'cassette tape to MP3' conversion technology
Feel like authentic fans might just 'own everything on tape' from now on.
Are cassette tapes the new 'vinyl'?
/////RELEVANT MP3 POST

Was listening to GorillaVsBear's 'summer mix' and thought all of this music might be what the post-MJ world is all about.
Think that this song by BEST COAST is possibly 'lofi.' Not sure if it is 'trying to be good.' I think it is just sort of chilling. Think that since most music was 'trying to be MJ' we will stop 'trying to be perfect pop' and just sort of 'chill.'
Wonder if WAVVES is the next MJ [via 'meltdown'/Xanax]. Wonder if 'electro' is all dead since every1 who 'makes electro' pretends to 'suck MJs peen' [via French electro artists].
Analysis: I feel 'good' about having Air France in my iTunes library. I think they are conceptual, and use different noises in their music. I think like this. Feel like they might be a better executed version of a band like The Tough Alliances. Not sure 'how good' I think they are, but would probably listen to their album when I want to 'chill by myself' or 'have people over' or something.
Analysis: I think that this song features the lead bro of the hit blog buzz band 'The Vampire Twilight Weekends.' Kinda weird how vampires got so mainstream after that song 'go so big.' I am not sure how I am supposed to describe this song. It might be sort of like 'African' but might also 'sound like Panda Bear.' Feeling confused about how to 'interpret it.' Might not be 'cultured enough' to 'fully wrap my head around it.' Might read a p4k review of their album to have a better context/understanding [via number rating].
Analysis: I think this band remixed the Teenagers a while ago. Think that this song is 'pretty okay.' Reminds me of the Friendly Fires, but maybe not as directly meaningful. They are from Spain, so maybe there is a language/aesthetic barrier. Seems 'decently chill', though. Sort of enjoying it. Think they have a new EP coming out. Might be good, but might be 'forgettable.'
Myspace http://www.myspace.com/deloreandanz
Analysis: Think this song is like 100 blog years old, but I 'only recently actually listened to it. I think I 'wrote them off' because they seemed like a 'forgettable band' with a sort of mediocre/gimimcky indie name. But I am 'really enjoying this song.' Seems like a more vulnerable-sounding version of Young Folks" by the PBJ. Really enjoying it. Wonder if it is 'secretly' a 'song of the year' candidate type of song [via according 2 respected blogs].

Have yall heard any relevant music lately?
Feels 'very good' to listen to music after not hearing it 4 such a long time. Might buy 'huge headphones'.
I was reading the popular tastemaking MP3 blog, GuerillasVsPandaBears, and heard this song that is conceptual by a band called HIGH LIFE. It apparently has members from Gang Gang Dance and members of Ariel Pink's backing band. I think that this means that they are conceptual, modern pop composers, and utilize elements of some of my favourite modern bands.
I am considering 'getting very excited' about this 'pleasant lil conceptual ditty.' I remember when HERE WE GO MAGIC first emerged and were just 'some relatively unknown blog buzz band.' Now they are opening for the Grizzly Bears.
I feel like this song mixes 'tons of modern indie-ish' techniques from bands that I <3 and h8. Still not sure how to feel about it. Might get excited after hearing 2.3 more mp3s by this band. Just want to listen 2 more conceptual-core pop.
I remember a long time ago when the Teenagers were remix gods, they had a remix of Au Revoir Simone's song "Fallen Snow." Can't believe history is repeating itself, yall. I feel like I've been on the internet for a long time, but it seems like I was listening to teens rmxes just yesterday. Wonder if music has 'grown' or 'stayed the same.' Wonder if bloghouse is 'still alive' or 'dead 4ever.'
I listened to the latest Au Revoir Simone album, and I think it is 'better than their last 1.' I still think they are just some sort of keyboard club marketing experience for entry-level alt females, and a product for altbros to listen to when remixed by authentic electro producers [via Aeroplane and Shinichi Osawa].
Do yall like this Teenagers remix? Might put this and the original version on mix CD for girl who I am over-aggressively trying 2 date even though she is not smart enough to realize why my personal brand is more authentic than any other bro in my local scene.
I 'feel excited' about the Aeroplane remix of this song [via viral video teaser]. It seems like a thick-ass banger. I can't wait to illegally download it and put it on my iPod nanoTouch.
Hey yall. Thought I might post and review some bloggable electro tracks. [MP3]
VEGA No Reasons
Grade: 6.8943 out of 10 runoffs Analysis: This song is pretty chill. Apparently Vega has an 'EP' coming out. Wondering if it will 'actually be good electro.' I think pitchfork reviewed this track, so that means that it is 'more than just bloghouse' and might be 'better than lifelike' but not as good/branded as Daft Punk. I think that since they got in some sort of physical altercation with Crystal Castles after a show in Texas, they have infiltrated the mainstream indie music memesphere.
******************* [MP3 stream] Grizzly Bear Two Weeks (Fred Falke Remix)
Grade: 5.0202 out of 10 runoffs Analysis: I feel like I 'really like' Grizzly Bear, and I 'really like' Fred Falke, but I find it 'hard to get into this remix' as a whole. Sometimes I pretend I am listening to a Fred Falke song, but then sometimes I just feel 'confused.' I think it is a good product, but I just don't think it is my thing. Think it might be for more of the indie-centric bros who are going to 'like this remix' but have never listened to bloghouse electro like me. I feel like it lost some of the things that I 'really like' about the original song, but I guess that's why Fred Falker gets paid $6000 per remix--he knows more than I do.
Grade: 1.994 out of 10 runoffs
Analysis: Weird Tapes was one of those electro bands that was 'mysterious' back in 2k8. I think it means that they have 'made it' if they got to remix the YYYs. Feel like this remix isn't 'that good' but I think it is nice to have on my computer or something. Think I like Memory Cassette more than Weird Tapes though. Think they are merging into one thingy called Memory Tapes. Hope they can have a good next step and grow out of being an anonymous group.
Grade: 7.1923 out of 10 runoffs Analysis: I feel like this song is 'very good.' I am not sure what LISZTOMANIA even means, though. I think it's kinda weird how ppl are 'getting really into the pop sounds of Phoenix' but sometimes u don't even really know what the hell they are talking about in their lyrics. Much like Vega, I think Classixx are penetrating the 'mainstream indie-centric music memesphere.' In addition to this rmx of the 'highly blggble' band Phoenix, they have some new song with a bro from the dead band JUNIOR SENIOR. There is some krappy video of it directed by the cobrasnake, but that makes the video 500% more memeable. Might actually 'tug' to the girl in the video chilling around Southern California.
Think that this song is 'really good' too. Would probably listen to it on repeat in my iTunes. Think that their songs are both 'chill' and 'happie.'
Review: The xx are four 19 year olds from London. Think that they seem pretty 'kewl.' Wish I could have made [HIGHLY BLOGGABLE] mp3s at age 19. I feel like the song seems 63% more intriguing when u see the entire band, and they 'look cool.' If you look at the band, they seem to have a 'normal bro', 'fashion-y bro,' 'kewl looking fierce girl', and 'normal girl.' Think these are 4 great identities to have in a band. I don't think there is anything wrong with 'liking music' mostly because it 'achieves an aesthetic that makes u feel kewl' even when ur not sure why. From what I have read on wikipedia, this was a driving factor in the rise of bloghaus.
I also think that this song "VCR" might be 'not that good' but I think it might be honest and simple, and might be good to like put on a mix CD for a girl because there is a female singer on it.
I feel like a band like this might 'get big' in some sort of hybrid model that mixes that shitty band THE PLAIN WHITE T's with Feist model. ' 1-2-3-4' types of songs.
Grade: 6.1243 out of 10 runoffs Review: From what I have 'internet researched', DESIRE is a new sound project utilizing the Johnny Jewel + 1 female structure. These bands essentially rely on the high level italo disco core production capabilities of Johnathan Jewel, and hope that the female is 'marketable'/'has a sexie dreamie voice/look.'
Grade: 7.267 out of 10 runoffs
Review: Neon Indian is apparently a new band that 'might cross over into the internet mainstream.' Have heard some of their songs, and they seem 'sort of electro' but also 'modern in a way that isn't 'predictable bloghouse bullshit' that 'people frown down upon.' Sort of like the 'lofi authenticity required to take Ariel Pink seriously' and 'authentic sampling that proves a band from myspace is more than just some electro altbros.'
Think that their song SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ACID WITH YOU is probably the best 100% 'new' song that I have heard this year. It is short and pleasant, which is probably 'what more songs should try to be' in the modern world.'
Grade: 5.88 out of 10 runoffs
Review: I remember how I always thought that the MSTRKRFT remix of Metric's "Monster Hospital" was better than 'regular Metric.' Haven't heard the original version of this song, but I might avoid it 4ever. I think that Metric has a new album out. Not even sure if this is a 'review.' Just posting some [HIGHLY BLOGGABLE] electro. Feel like this is a song that I will 'enjoy' for the next several years.
I think this is my list of favourite Broken Social Scene sub-bands:
1. The Feists
2. The Kevin Drews
3. Metric
4. Stars
Grade: 4.8745 out of 10 runoffs
Review: From what I understand, I am supposed to appreciate pop music from France, like Phoenix and bands like that who 'write well crafted pop, but sing in English.' I think remixes are pretty kewl, too. Think this track is 'nice to have' in ur iPod library. Need 2 blog more about tracks that are 'nice 2 have around' since they are not asking u to consider them the best song ever written. PARA ONE produced the original version of this song and Xavier DeRosnay is apparently producing their next album/produced their old stuff.

Grade: 8.452 out of 10 runoffs Review: From what I understand, the new album by Grizzly Bear will be auto-placed into the Top 5 albums of 2k9. I guess that means I am supposed to rate it in comparison to the album by the Animal Collectives called Merriweather Post Pavilion. Looking back at MPP era, I feel kinda 'sad' and 'ashamed' of 'how excited' our society was about an album.
I was at a relevant music festival/conference, and I had the opportunity to experience the WAVVES live experience at a relevant party held by the relevant blog GorillaVsBear.
From what I have read on the internet, WAVVES is 'the next big thing' according to internet music websites. I have listened to his song about being 's00 b0red', but I am not sure if it appeals to me. He seems like a chill bro who plays gigs in comfortable sports wear.
A lot of times, bands like this come along, and they achieve this aesthetic that is like fuzzy/garage rock/nihilist/beach-guitar-bro/post-punk/etc, or probably some more formal genre that I am not aware of. It seems to appeal to the core demographic of 'music critics' who are men between the ages of 28-48. This means that Generation Y is not represented by many authentic 'tastemaking' music information sources (and probably rightfully so).
So while I 'get' that this music is good for some reason, I don't think that any one who is Generation Y or below should really 'get into it', but if ur an 'older bro who likes music', maybe u can share what makes it 'good'/'relevant-sounding' so that I can understand the modern musiccriticismsphere. Maybe I have 'too many pop sensibilities' since my parents 'listened to a lot of ______' while I was growing up.
Maybe I just feel more comfortable with a band like MGMT getting pseudo-'critical acclaim' until it is 'driven into the ground' because of its aesthetic gimmick/poppy consumer-core sounds than I am with these bands that will be 'forever-authentic.' I think these people appeal to the 'alternative post-GenXers who grew up reading Vice Magazine.' Still trying to 'get' these alts since I have had to alienate them to appeal to tweens (a more valuable demographic for advertisers).
Does n e understand what I am trying 2 say? Just trying to 'make sense' of bands that are [HIGHLY BUZZWORTHY] that aren't instantly accessible 2 me.
Do yall give WAVVES a thumbs up or thumbs down?
Review: I am still trying to figure out how much/why I like We Have Band. I think I made a gimmick post about them where I called them 'the next Metronomy'. Sort of wish they were around 2 years earlier during the golden age of bloghouse. Most covers are 'kinda dumb' and 'forced', but I think this one is 'chill' and 'well-executed.
I am going to start covering the most 'relevant' mp3s in the mp3blogosphere. People use HRO as not only a source of 'kewl content', but also as a voice which passes judgment on the most important alternative products. I will help u assemble ur iPod. MP3 REVIEW
Rye Rye Bang (ft M.I.A.)
Review: Listened 2 this song by Rye Rye featuring M.I.A. Not sure what I am supposed to think about it. Not sure if Rye Rye is 'authentically from the streets' or in that genre of 'rap that is marketed to 'hipsters' but not really accepted by authentic hiphop circles.'
hi yall.
how r u?
Don't really feel 'zany' or 'energetic' 2day. Just wanted 2 post some MP3s that are kinda chill/dark. Sometimes u need 2 reflect. Feel a lot of pressure to 'be funny, relevant, and insightful' all of the time, but sometimes u should just lay alone in the dark and listen to Sigur Ros/reflective music with words that u can't rlly understand.
Might start listening to Grouper instead since they are opening up for AnCo. This is one of their myspace pix. I think it is 'kinda haunting' somehow.
