This is a post where Carles recaps some of the most relevant music videos of the past several blog-days. Music videos are an important component in the memefication of bands. Modern bands must create a constant stream of content for fans to consume.

Carles also attempts to ‘find the meaning’ behind the music videos.

Music Video: Dead Man’s Bones – Name in Stone

Analysis: I only posted this because it is Ryan Gosling’s band. I think he was in the popular movie ‘The Notebook’ about people who get alzheimer’s or something. I am not sure what he is ‘trying to do’/'trying to sound like.’ Might be trying to be ‘The Killers’ or maybe ‘early Grizzly Bear.’

Think it’s kinda weird when mainstream celebs ‘go indie’ and I can’t evaluate their music fairly without ‘pretending they are a character from one of their movies.’ Think I will call this The Jason Schwartzman Effect. Just think of him as his character from Rushmore whenever I hear Phantom Planet/Coconut Records.

Music Video: Omar K – Rainbow Arabia

Analysis: Have never heard of this band, but I think this is the reason that ‘people should make music videos. Just to like ‘get attention.’ In this video, you’ll see some sort of tribal-where-the-wild-things-are crew invade a super market. Then they get ‘all scary’ and ‘violent’ and ‘zany.’ Think it is supposed to be some sort of statement about hunting and gathering. There is some scary little kid. A lady grows a beard. They kill some people who are shopping. Probs the only video ‘worth watching’ in this post. Not sure if this band/person is a man/woman, but feels like what I expect Bat for Lashes/GangGang Dance to be, even though I have never really listened to them.

Music Video – Department of Eagles – No One Does It Like You

Analysis: Think that this band has ’some of the bros from Grizzly Bear’ in it. Not sure which band I ‘like more.’ I think that every band should actually be a clustered band with 2-3 sub-bands perpetually generating memes. I think this video is about war or something like that. Not really sure, but think it might be ‘visually stunning.’

Music Video: N.A.S.A. “Gifted” (feat. Kanye West, Santogold, & Lykke Li)

Analysis: From what I understand, one of the bros in the band/dj duo N.A.S.A. is brothers with Spike Jonez. Not sure if that ‘gave his band an advantage.’ I think NASA had an album come out, and they just had every1 who is ‘relevant’ contribute on their tracks. Feel like it is probably a good business model, if u have the connections. I will now post the track listing to NASA’s album just because it is kinda funnie how many ‘famous people’ are ‘contributing’ from pretty much every genre from the past 40 years.

1. “Intro”
2. “The People Tree” (feat. David Byrne, Chali 2na, Gift of Gab, & Z-Trip)
3. “Money”(feat. David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, & Z-Trip)
4. “NASA Music” (feat. Method Man, E-40, & DJ Swamp)
5. “Way Down” (feat. RZA, Barbie Hatch, & John Frusciante)
6. “Hip Hop” (feat. KRS-One, Fatlip, & Slim Kid Tre)
7. “Four Rooms, Earth View”
8. “Strange Enough” (feat. Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, & Fatlip)
9. “Spacious Thoughts” (feat. Tom Waits & Kool Keith)
10. “Gifted” (feat. Kanye West, Santogold, & Lykke Li)
11. “A Volta” (feat. Sizzla, Amanda Blank, & Lovefoxxx)
12. “There’s a Party” (feat. George Clinton & Chali 2na)
13. “Whachadoin?” (feat. Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santogold & Nick Zinner)
14. “O Pato” (feat. Kool Kojak & DJ Bãboa)
15. “Samba Soul” (feat. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien & DJ Qbert)
16. “The Mayor” (feat. The Cool Kids, Ghostface Killah, DJ AM & Scarface)
17. “N.A.S.A. Anthem”

Sort of wish they got ______ to contribute.

Music Video: Phoenix – Lisztomania (Live on Saturday Night Live)

Analysis: ‘Kind of lackluster.’ I am not sure if it is because they are more of a studio band (not a bad thing), or because they are just FRENCH. Think that French people live in a different version of reality. Think that the lead singer ‘has such a consistent voice’ that it makes him seem like he is lip synching. Maybe he is. Kind of weird how their next album is ‘all anticipated’ but think I will probably ‘not see them live’ just in case they ‘ruin their image’ for me.

Have yall seen n e good music videos lately?
Worried that the music video is a dying medium.

PS: Can some1 please design me a ‘logo meme’ for the ‘MEANINGFUL MUSIC VIDEOS’ gimmick? Need more ‘fan art.’

Sometimes I wonder ‘what DJs will do next’ in order to stay relevant + interesting.
They are really going to have to start coming up with ‘out of this world’ gimmicks since the masked DJ economy has officially gone under.
I feel like the whole ’space’/'interplanetary’ theme might be the future of the DJ. Or maybe something where you choose a career, and then build your gimmick around it. Kind of like how Interpol dresses up like ghey investment bankers. Or Nickelback dresses up like ‘dudes who hang out at bars.’

This bro is an Astronaut for the popular web 2.0 company NASA.

He decided to use his performance as a portal to ‘another galaxy.’ (cuz he chills in space)
He even discovered a new breed of alien who lives on another planet that has Am Appies.

It was a zany and fun time with tons of intergalactic creatures. The altCrowd ‘loved’ how it was ‘not supposed to be taken seriously’ but also represented a portal to a different galaxy in a serious way.

As yall know, HRO is a blog about finding sustainable business models/gimmicks. As performers, yall have to realize that you need 2 do whatever it takes to get blogged about. Kind of like the pizza alt. U have 2 understand that u are creating 4dimensional experience for your fans.

Can yall think of any good DJ/band gimmicks for the upcoming decade?
