Should I stop saying the word ‘GHEY’?

As HRO continues into it's post-Tolerant era, I can't help but wonder if I need to 'give up some of my branding/marketing strategies' that revolve around post-intolerance. For example, I use the terms 'FGGT' and 'GHEY' a lot.

This meme has been just about everywhere, but it rlly did stop & make me think... 'is there a better way 2 live?'

Should I stop using the term "GHEY"?

Will this be the last time I use the term 'FGGT'?

Will this be the last time that I give relevant commentary on 'tweenage gheys' deciding to be GHEY these days for attention (particularly tween lezbos who dress in black together)?

h8 that kidz have s0 much freedom these days. Wish I had the opportunity to 'experiment' with alternative lifestyles and deviant subcultures within a controlled environment when I was a pre-entry-level-alt.

Ladyhawke Has Asperger's Syndrome

Do yall remember when music journalism/writing papers in 5th grade used to be about writing intros like this:

Walking gawkily into the room, Pip Brown is a mess of crumpled urban-wear and ruffled blonde hair. Held together by a Patti Smith T-shirt, black leather jacket, hooded blue shirt, skinny black jeans and unlaced Doc Martens, Brown - aka Ladyhawke - doesn't exactly look like someone you'd go to for fashion tips. But she's fast becoming a name to drop in the music world, revered as much for her dress sense as for her 80s-referencing, melodic synth-heavy rock.

"It's really funny, that style icon thing," says the 27-year-old New Zealander, now relocated to London. For a start, she says, she doesn't wear women's clothes, like, ever. "I have this thing where I refuse to wear anything made for a female because I don't like conforming to gender stereotypes. It's so predictable to get girly-cut jeans and blouses. I wear men's clothes: jackets, shirts and shoes. It doesn't take away from my femininity."

Ladyhawke at some profile piece from the guardian:

"I have this thing called Asperger's syndrome," she says. - a disorder on the autism spectrum characterised by difficulties with social interaction and idiosyncratic behaviour. "When I found out, it explained my whole childhood. I told my mum and she said, 'That's why you used to sit on the floor doing puzzles for hours!' It was the reason I was so solitary. I'd say completely inappropriate things. The other kids thought I was a weirdo."

She mentions two traits associated with Asperger's: a thirst for knowledge and a love of music. At home, she would sit with her ear glued to the radio, or listen to her parents' Beatles and Pretenders albums. That's when she wasn't being sick: she suffered from a panoply of illnesses and allergies that kept her in and out of hospital.

Yall. When we think of blogIndieRockNRollers/AltCelebs, we usually think of 'untalented rich kids who play MicroKorgs/Serato.' We usually don't know the 'real stories' behind these people. Good 2 finally find 1 out.

Here's a list of other famous people with Asperger's Syndrome. Gifted and Talented people usually have it.

  • Woody Allen -wrote a movie about Manhatty
  • Isaac Asimov - invented 'science'
  • Jane Austen - wrote about anguished tweens from the past

  • muppets taking over it.

  • Royal Tenenbaum - had tummy cancer.
  • Henry Thoreau - lived at a pond without internet and blogged about it (on paper)
  • Mark Twain - was a member of the 90s AltRock band Tommy Sawyer and the Blowfish (Huck Finn)
  • Andy Warhol - doodled 4 a lot of money

Are yall inspired? I remember in the past I have accused alternative celebrities of being 'spoiled' and having 'symptoms of A.D.D.'/needing attention, but I guess I need 2 be more tolerant and try 2 find out more b4 I make judgments about people who are 'in the spotlight.' The article makes it seem like Ladyhawke is 'in the spotlight' because that's what musicians have 2 do, not bc she's entirely comfortable with it.

MexiAlts

HIPSTER RUNOFF has a significant following in Southern California and Mexico. A lot of AltMinorities email me saying "Carles...u always blog about blipsters & azns, but u fail to blog about MexiAlts, the fastest growing alternative minorities group in the Alternative Nation."

They're right. It's time to finally get serious about blogging about MexiAlts. MexiAlts are responsible for the sustainability of the Party Industry in Southern California. It's difficult to deny the presence of more MexiAlts than ever on popular party pix sites like thecobrasnake & redslurpeee.

MexiAlts are blessed with the ability to 'have a wide-eyed, entry level mindset' without 'gettin too self-aware'.  They will never 'become disenfranchised with the state of the scene.'  Instead, they will migrate to a new scene after it is established as a 'mainstream alt' norm. MexiAlts enjoy the consumer experience provided by their local mall, usually inundated with MainstreamAltish Trends.  Most MexiAlts are currently transitioning out of emo/PanicAtTheFallOutBoy/post-hardcore, and focusing on electro/bloghaus.

For example, these MexiAlts [via Mexico] have transitioned their PanicAtTheDiscEmo personal brands to a modernized ElectroAlt personal brand.

The MexiAlt comes in many different formats.  I remember during HRO's myspacer worth blogging about era, many of the selected myspacers were the post-sexual androgynous MexiAlt type.  For example, here is HECTOR ECSTASY.

And who will forget ISAAC MEXICAN? He checks his myspace bulletins [via sidekick] at least once every 10 minutes.

MexiAlts usually don't make it on the guestlist. They are pure 'consumers' in the alternative economy, without many connections/aspirations to do more than stand on the sidelines of the alternative economy. When Southern Californian producers/promoters post myspace bulletins about having a show (equipped with an obnoxious flier), this is for the MexiAlt demographic. Myspace bulletins = usually the best way to reach them.

Female MexiAlts are proud of their American Apparel aesthetic in the way that an entryLevel Alt circa 2k6.3 would be proud of his/her personal brand's merger with the AA aesthetic.

It's always just important to remember that Alternative Minorities are more important to the ElectroCommunity than Alternative whites (tentatively called WHIPSTERS). MexiAlts, AltAzns, and Blipster are the people who are proud of the scene--proud enough to go see a DJ who is 'going to lay down a HARD set.' White people usually go to more 'traditional concerts' while AltMinorities aren't afraid to 'show up early to get a spot in the front' and then 'get sweatie'/grind on one another.

After dedicating significant coverage to blipsters and AZNs, it's time to honor one of the most important demographics in Altville--the MexiAlt.

What are MexiAlts all about, yall?  Do yall people in the Northern USA/Canada/Australia/Europe even know what a MexiAlt is?
Do u like this era of post-tolerance on HRO?
