A 'Complete Guide' to Indie, Mindie, Dubstep, Electro & Alt Buzzband Grammy Nominations

During the infancy of 'indie', back when it was something that individual fans felt that they could 'be proud of', a Grammy nomination was met with astonishment and validation. However, in the post-Arcade-Fire-wins-the-night-and-validates-indie era, it seems like random ass indie bands will get nominated every year, and no1 really cares, and we all already know that 'indie went mainstream'. Gonna be a weird era, but we will still see the same tweets/half-assed 'thought pieces' about 'what indie means' & other gimmicky over-analysis of 'the most coveted prize in American music.'

The most stunning development of the night is Skrillex's five nominations. He is just behind Kanye West and Adele who each have six noms. Skrillex is the first electronic artist put into the Best New Artist category, so he is basically a 'legitimate trailblazer' even if James Blake tries to discredit him because his brand of dubstep is too aggressive. Bon Iver also got some Sympathy Noms, and Foster the Ppl are riding their Pumped Up Kickswaves to another awards show, then we get to see if they 'last' or 'fade away' as one of the 2010s best one-hit-wonders.

Here is a breakdown of indie, electro, mindie, bubble gum indie, cool dad, dubstep, dance_house, chillwave, and other relevant alt genres/humans who were nominated 4 Grammys. (View a complete list of every nomination here.)

The 'Biggest' News

Best New Artist

OMG Skrilly and Bon Iver in the same category?
But isn't Bon Iver a middle aged man from the Midwest? Isn't he an old ass artist who has been around 4 a while? Guess it doesn't matter. Bon Iver was also nominated for 'Record of the Year' and 'Song of the Year', but just because he is a cool dad indie band like the Arcade Fire, don't expect that b0ring a$$ album to 'actually win.' I think this is the beginning of a default 'mainstream indie band' nomination for most of the big awards. It is symbolic/sympathetic.

It seems like the surprise Arcade Fire moment of the show would be Skrillex winning. There is always a bad feeling that Nicki Minaj's big ass will waddle up to accept the award, but as long as she is slippin us some nip, we'll be alright.

Thom: Thinking abt life while throwing down a reflective chill @the_beach

I was looking at a popular gossip weblog, and I saw pix of the lead singer of the most mainstream authentic popular band, The Radiohead. I haven't listened 2 much RadioBrain, but I am not sure what they are doing 'being covered' by a mainstream Gossip Weblog. I guess they aren't as 'alternative' as I once thought they were.

I am an alone bro
sitting at the beach
writing songs like 'Kid A' and 'Pablo Honey'
in my head
being chased by the Karma Police

The waves crash over me
like an Incubus song
except with more electronic elements
and I wail over the tunes
talking about important political stuff about live and the environment
and society with zany song titles

I live in a different world
than the commonfolk
but sometimes do the same simple things
that they do
to get inspired
and write a new album
2 give away for free
'on the internet'

Feel sad that I couldn't go on a family vacay and accidentally run into Thom at the beach. Seems like a chill bro.

Still confused that this indie band is being covered by paparazzi. h8 the modern world

What Cool Dads Do On The Weekend

Did u guys see WEEZER lead a sing-along concert at some church community center? It's probably the future of live performances.

Notable types of people in this video are:

  • cool dad
  • aging alts
  • purgatory 'alternative' people who don't know what aesthetic they are going for, but do know how to play acoustic guitar
  • festival bros
  • the wacky guy in your HS band
  • People who wear baseball caps
  • Men who wear sunglasses that are functional, instead of obnoxious
  • Acoustic Guitar All-Stars who are recapturing the glory from their high school talent shows
  • Rock Stars who are on a never-ending quest to 'go viral'

I hope Prince makes Vimeo take down this video of his song.

Checking in on the HIPSTER RUNOFF remix

Hey. Remember that time I remixed Radiohead for their remix contest?
My Remix is in 3rd place. Are you proud of me?

Don't forget 2 vote!

Let's take another stroll around blogville, to see what the blggrs have to say about the remix....
***********
The Lemur Blog says:

WHEN IS THE HRO DEBUT ALBUM DROPPING?

***********
Miss Toats @ IHEARTCOMIX says:

Well, to further his quest in conquering pop culture, he[HRO] has created his own remixed version of Radiohead's Nude. Drawing inspiration from the band 'The Teenagers' and from hipsters everywhere, the remix has become the lucky underdog and is currently residing in third place.

***********
Best Week Ever says:

You’ve probably heard about this Radiohead re-mix contest by now, but here’s the best entry I’ve heard yet. Or at least the funniest. (HIPSTER RUNOFF)

***********
RockInsider says:

If you haven't heard Hipster Runoff's Entry for Radiohead Remix of "Nude" yet please do so right now. It's kind of the awesomest thing ever.

***********
The Rawking Refuses to Stop sayz:

Hipster Runoff's satiric, Baz Luhrmann-esque spoken word version is pretty lol-worthy.

***********
Consequence Of Sound says:

Perhaps the best part of the whole “contest”? Hipster Runoff’s calling out of Justice

***********
The Lemur Blog says again:

The blog Hipster Runoff and its writer Carles entered the Radiohead remix competition this week with a sort of spoken-word-on-top-of-the-instrumentals style remix which sounded like a classic HRO post but in music form. I like Carles, he seems like a thoughtful and nice guy, got lots of funny and interesting stuff going on inside his head and on the blog, little shallow and can't spell sometimes but hey! who isn't? who can?

Geee, doesn't it whet your appetite? Don't you want more HRO remixes? Or even better: wouldn't you go banananananananas for some original from the blogster? I'd go mashed bananas in my pyjamas pants over an HRO original tune.

ButterTeam suggests:

The FMLY says:

HIPSTER RUNOFF IS THE NEXT JUSTICE. This is truly an incredible sight and maybe when this contest is over we'll see a change in remixing...On blogs ranging from Gorilla vs Bear to FMLY friend Pretty Much Amazing, Hipster Runoff will be big in '08. Hipster Runoff is the next Led Zeppelin.

PrettyMuchAmazing declares:

Yes, HR, you ARE the next Justice! This is probably the best remix, very Teenagers-y. It even outs Hype Machine as a MUSIC PIRACY TOOL.

Another Radiohead Remix of “Nude” appeared in their rmx contest business, by uncrowned Blogger of the Century, with the slickest stylesheet in the www, Hipster Runoff, the Justice of 0-9, the face of AA-ads, the younger Brodinski, the new mask of Bloody Beetroots, Fergie’s Father, the drainpipe jeans of Ladyhawke, the tutor of So Me, the right hand of g*d, the darker timbaland.

IGUESSIMFLOATING says:

As you probably know by now, Radiohead is hosting a sweet remixing contest for one of the most beautiful and complex songs they've ever recorded, "Nude." There have been a couple of stand-out entries that I've heard (Holy Fuck and HPSTR RNFF in particular)...

The HypeMachine Popular Page says:

THANKS BLOGVILLE. Love, HRO.

Do you respect blogs that bl0g about the HRO remix more than u thought u did, because they 'get' it?
Do you support HRO's quest to be the #1 Radiohead remix because of 'what it represents, in terms of marketing+the music blogosphere+ issues in BUZZology'?

BURNING QUESTIONS:
By Remixing RADIOHEAD, do you give yourself a greater reach into non-electro driven blogs?
Will HIPSTER RUNOFF end up #1 on the Remix Charts?
Will the HRO RMX change the world?
Will Radiohead huddle around a computer in their studio and listen to the HRO remix?
Will Thom Yorke throw a guitar through a bay window in his mansion when he hears HIPSTER RUNOFF's post-post modern remix?
Is HIPSTER RUNOFF trying to cross-over?
Will HIPSTER RUNOFF get too mainstream and turn into a krappy bl0g if HRO becomes the next big band?
Will HIPSTER RUNOFF's remix end up in a MacBookAir ad, because I made it in Garage Band?
What is a meme?!?!?
Will some one REMIX the HRO REMIX of Radiohead's "Nude"?
Are you tired of HIPSTER RUNOFF's stupid self-serving endeavors, and just want to read more myspacers and see m0re party pix?
R u proud of me? I never fit in at school cuz my parents moved around a lot, so I just rlly want people 2 like me... R u my real friend? Did u really vote from ur high school computer lab?

Blogville Gimmicks
Artists and Albums I Never Gave a Chance in 2007

Here's a list of highly BLGGD ABT + Critically Acclaimed artists who made relevant songs and albums of 2007 that I didn't really listen to, mainly due to fickle consumery reasons.

Arcade Fire - Never listened to Neon Bible as an 'album experience,' but I thought the tracks that I heard were alright. Maybe I just didn't want to be reminded of the person who I was when "Funeral" changed my life.

Beirut - Wonder what they sound like. They're from New Mexico, and I don't think Mexico has electricity. Without electricity, you can't make BANGERS.

Modest Mouse - Apparently they had a critically acclaimed album this year. I wonder if it sounded more like "Float On" or "Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset." After the FLOAT ON explosion of 2004, I just don't think we're supposed to be expected to 'take a band seriously.' I don't mean to 'DOG on them' because I'm all about cashing in/selling out.

Radiohead - "In Rainbows" didn't do a good enough job of putting banner ads at websites that I visit, I guess. What am I trying to prove to myself by not listening to an album that I could have 'bought' for free? If we compared musical acts to the restaurant industry, I feel like Radiohead would be somewhere like PF Changs or something. Probably a pretty good product, but you don't really want to hang out with people whose favourite restaurant is an 'elegant chain.' (that probably also gives you the runs sometimes).

Band of Horses - Who are they? Based on their name, I would say they probably sound like the Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon mixed together.

The Black Kids/Cool Kids - Apparently they are overhyped, and represent everything that's wrong with the blogosphere, so I decided not to listen to them yet. Then the other one is a rap duo. I'm sure sometime in 2008, I'll listen to a few more of their songs, and make sure I don't confuse them in conversation.

Based on this picture, would you guess that this band is the BLACK KIDS or the COOL KIDS?

Are these KIDS more 'cool' or more 'black'?

Burial - I'm sure it's pretty good, but maybe I'm just not ready yet. I'm sure if the album was on my computer, I'd end up listening to it and saying it's good. I remember the first time I read about BURIAL, there was a blurb about how he chooses to remain anonymous, and I can't identify with any one who doesn't want to become rich, famous, & take their art to the masses.

Here's a picture of Burial. I tried to view more photos, but " The user you're trying to view has set all their photos to private."

The National - I think I listened to a little bit of one of their songs, but when it comes to 'music that sounds kind of like that', I'd rather listen to TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS.

Of Montreal - I heard they were just some sort of marketing experiment, created by a joint venture of Outback Steakhouses and EMI.

Wilco - If I wasn't musically mature enough to appreciate them back before pre-blog indie rock. Now I started enjoying this BLOGHOUSE crap so much, I'm sure I can't appreciate them.

Josh Ritter - I'd be 50% more likely to listen if some one told me that he was related to John Ritter.

OKKERVIL RIVER - This is a band that I am afraid of listening to because I don't really know how to say or spell their name. In addition, something about their name makes me think that they use a lot of banjos.

M.I.A. - Now that I think about it, I guess I only listened to PAPER PLANES. The other day I saw this 19 year old who dressed like he is in My Chemical Romance rapping to 'PAPER PLANES', and I decided I should probably put some distance between myself and any affinity towards M.I.A. (I'm an ass hole).

Klaxons - I only listened to Klaxons remixes, but those remixes were pretty awesome!

Deerhoof - Are they related to that band DEERHUNTER, except they chose to take different names like Simian breaking up and turning into THE BLACK GHOSTS + SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO?

Menomena - I'm sure they're good, but their name just reminds me of a mid 90s alt band that people ironically play. Maybe I should listen just in case they are in that great genre of 'Music I could put on a Mix CD for one of my parents.'

Paste Magazine = the 'In Rainbows' of Magazines

Paste Magazine seems like a quality publication, even though I've never read it. I respect the fact that they seem to focus their attention on music that is mainly played from the speakers of leather-interiored cars. This means featuring the best singer songwriters + stuff that could have been on the Garden State soundtrack + other artists that are a step to the left of 'buzzworthy.'

I wonder if their decision to let the customer name their own price for a subscription comes after getting data about how IN RAINBOWS performed with customers in their target audience.

Or maybe this poll on their site showing 16% approval of Radio head was the only market research that they thought was necessary:

They already have a great business model where you get a sampler CD per magazine, so this is pretty interesting/hilarious. I'd like to see a copy of their financial statements to see how much revenue they get from each part of their business (magazine subscriptions/ advertising/online music store).

Go to their website just to experience their initial AJAX popup encouraging you to name your own price.

The World is ready for the new Hype Machine

Go to HypeMachine so that it can launch.
I've been testing out HypeMachine Pt 2 Beta and it has been pretty great. This is an exciting time for music bloggers and MP3 scavengers.

Hipster Runoff on New Hype Machine:

  • It gives more power to the bloggers by showcasing the blogs a little bit more
  • It has a very clean, functional interface
  • It gives the hypem user opportunities for customization/personalization.
  • It lets you stream songs without the typical flash pop up music player
  • The new Hypemachine interface is so approachable, that even the tail end of Generation Y will 'get it.'
  • It is an upgrade and I'm glad team hypemachine had the time to get around to it.

Hype Machine is way more historically significant than "In Rainbows." Overall, the new hype machine is going to give an even larger audience exposure to new music and fresh blogs. I can't wait to read douchebaggier reviews of it in 'web technology blogs.'

http://www.hypem.com

Every 6 months, the blogosphere doubles in size. Now is the time to start your super hip music blog that shows you have amazing taste. This might be your last chance before the competition for readership is even more difficult than it is now.

If you want to know more about early Hype Machine, here's an interview with creator Anthony Volodkin in Wired. He definitely comes across as the kind of guy you'd want behind HypeMachine.

A Review of Radiohead's In Rainbows

I haven't listened to "In Rainbows" yet, but I think I've gotten a legitimate feel for it based on reading other blogs today.

HIPSTER RUNOFF'S REVIEW OF IN RAINBOWS ONLY BASED ON READING REVIEWS OF IN RAINBOWS
Basically, it sounds like Radiohead. There's A LOT of experimentation and A LOT of reaching into the same bag of tricks.
Most of the tracks try to "out Radiohead" their previous albums, but still manage to tap into the essence of what makes Radiohead fans love Radiohead.
Some of the tracks sound like they could be on "Kid A," while some of them sound like they are on "In Rainbows." A few sound like they are from "Hail to the Thief." For the most part, a lot of them have elements that remind us of older Radiohead songs. Some of the songs are a little bit too out there for every one, but eventually, every one will adapt their perception of "good music" and learn to love every song. Thom Yorke also varies his vocal delivery, a lot. Sometimes he sings like that intense part of that one song. Also, the quality of the MP3s leaves us wondering if it would sound better if we had the opportunity to buy the CD.

I'm going to pay $1000 for the new Radiohead album

So the news of the day is that Radiohead's new album comes out in 10 days. Just announced today.
It really 'sounds like an experiment in viral marketing.'
Good thing the bloggers really bit on this story.

Anyways, you can 'pay however much you want' for the new tracks, and I'm planning on paying over $1000, because I want Thom Yorke to buy a hybrid Toyota Prius.

Way to go Radiohead. I haven't bought a Radiohead album since "Pablo Honey."

True/False: Radiohead is for people with either excessive taste in music, or no taste at all.

Was Radiohead beyond forgettable on SNL? Does n e 1 still care abt them?

Radiohead went on Saturday Night Live. I am not sure why they did that. Their whole gimmick is 'being interesting', 'cutting edge', and 'controversial.' But I guess they haven't really done anything that innovative since they 'gave away their album for free.' They must be desperate 4 something, which is why they went on SNL, which is basically only watched by 'losers in dead end relationships who stay in everynight' while they stuff their faces with Whole Foods pastries and feel convinced that they are the most important cultural critics in the world.</embed>

At least we got to see Thom York jimmy jangle some maracas. Otherwise, a total snoozefest.

Really boring performances that didn't translate to TV at all. Sure, they are accomplished, but u can tell that their heads are so far up their own asses that there is no way they will ever make another album that isn't more than 'branded noises'. We're witnessing the death of what are supposed 2 be 'legends', but I could find 100 myspace bands who could poop out these noises in their sleep.

Did Radiohead 'tank' on SNL?
Is SNL 'funnie'?
Who still 'gives a damn' abt Radiohead?
Have they ever been 'edgy' or just conceptual jam band music for ppl 2 do drugs 2?
Does Radiohead have anything left in the tank, or should they hurry up and do a 10 year public breakup so that they can overcharge for their reunion tour?</embed>

Thom Yorke continues 2 try to become a dubstep triphop DJ, plays live set

Thom Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead, but I think he has accepted that their band's career is sorta 'swirling down the pooper', and no1 is really THAT interested in listening to over-branded abstract music that doesn't even mean anything and just 'sounds kewl' 2 do while ur on entry-level drugs. Anyways, Thom is doing his best to 'break thru' into the emerging dubstep DJ circuit scene. Thom Yorke dresses up as a newsboy & sells newspapers to try to save the music industry

Thom Yorke was spotted selling newspapers somewhere in London. At first I thought he was out of money, so he had to get a second job selling newspapers to ppl who are on their way 2 work. But then it turns out Radiohead released some gimmicky newspaper as part of their flop album release. I was sorta hoping that Thommy was 'tired of making conceptual dubstep rock music' and was trying out a new career line. It must be difficult 2 be a musician, just seems like you'd get tired of it after a while.

Here is a lamestreamer fan buying a newspaper and asking Thom to 'take a picture with her' bc he is a mainstream music icon.

Does Thom look keut as a newsie?
Do u think he gets respect from other newsies in the community, or is he invading their turf?
Do yall ever see 'newsboys' in our modern world, or have they just been replaced with vending machines and the internet?
Do ppl still sell newspapers in the middle of the road in ur local community?

Thom Yorke admits "King of Limbs" sucked by focusing on his own dubstep career

Thom Yorke Live DJ Set @ Low End Theory LA 3.9.11 from Theo Jemison on Vimeo.

Here is some 'high definition video footage' of Thom Yorke's surprise DJ set last week, or whenever that happened. I figured that he was 'supporting' the KING OF LIMBS album, but it seems like he is moving on with his own career and trying to distance himself from what a huge flop the King of Limbs was, and he is just moving on with his own career. He is releasing some MP3s with dubstep legends Burial and Four Tet, probably because he wants to be taken more seriously as a dubstep solo buzzband.

New Burial jam, taken from the A-side of his instantly sold-out forthcoming split 12″ with Thom Yorke + Four Tet, out this week on Four Tet’s TEXT label

Here is one called "Mirror." Not sure if it is as good as MJ's "Man In the Mirror."

I am not really a dubstep music critic, so I can't tell if these songs are 'epic' or 'forgettable.' I feel like all darkwave dubstep 'sounds the same', so I can't really tell. It sounds all heavy and wobbly and drummy and bassy, but I don't know how 2 describe it 4 real.

Are these songs 'hella authentic'?
Is Thommy admitting that he h8s Radiohead + is ashamed of their last album?
Is KING OF LIMBS a critical + commerical flop?
Do u think he will be more dubstep famous than Burial/James Blake?
Do u think he is pissed that James Blake is the new 'king of dubstep'?
Will Thom's dubstep career get in the way of his relationship with Radiohead?
Is Radiohead hella irrelevant?
Oh Thommy...

Pitchfork 'pans' Radioheads "The King of Limbs."

For the past 100 blog centuries (~20 years real time), Radiohead has been the darlings of critics all around the world. But after their new album 'The King of Limbs', u can't help but think that their time as 'relevant musicians' might be over... Popular American blogsite Pitchfork Media gave the Kings of Distorted_Alt_bleepbloop_core_post_ambient_trance_dubstep an incredibly disappointing 7.9.

I think they basically say "In Rainbows" was a better album because it was free and it lowered expectations, so it was 'bullshit' that the Radioheads charged money 4 this album when all of their fans were already used 2 getting their music 4 free.

Now that the music on In Rainbows has had four years to outshine its launch mechanism, it's easy to forget that the album originally came bundled with an honest attempt to solve a business problem. The pay-what you-think-is-fair system wasn't just Radiohead being magnanimous, it was using their popularity and their newly won independence to ask what might have been the single most important question facing a shaken music industry: What is an album in the download era actually worth to fans?

Here is a paragraph where they say that the album was kinda lame, lost, lacking something that we've come 2 expect from the Radioheads

Radiohead's eighth record, The King of Limbs, represents a marked attempt to create a considered and cohesive unit of music that nonetheless sits somewhere outside of the spectrum of their previous full-length discography. And that's not to say that it doesn't ripple with the dazzling sonics or scenery that have become the band's stock in trade, but just that, unlike so many of their milestones, there's no abiding sense of a band defying all expectations in order to establish new precedents.

Instead, we get eight songs that feel mostly like small but natural evolutions of previously explored directions.

Basically, Radiohead got lazy and sorta just 'mailed it in', and because they weren't 'pushing the envelope' with a gimmick like 'pay-what-u-want', fans and critics were bored, and they just made another forgettably good album.

So: eight tracks, each of them worth your time, and yet The King of Limbs is still likely to go down as Radiohead's most divisive record. A trawl through message boards and social networks leaves the impression that many disappointed fans are still struggling to make sense of the gap between the greatness of the thing they got and the genius of the thing they thought they might get. It's in that gap, when assessing the album overall, that it's easy to get tangled up. This is well-worn terrain for Radiohead, and while it continues to yield rewarding results, the band's signature game-changing ambition is missed.

Is 7.9 a disappointing score in the modern Pitchfork Era when any lofi/chillchill/wavewave buzzband is 'guaranteed at least an 8.4'?
Are we 'being too hard on Thom'?

Is Radiohead just another example of an alt-rock band who has outlived their shelf life?
Is it time for Radiohead 2 'break up'?
Is it time 4 Americans to stop 'kissing the ass' of Radiohead and other UK dubsteppy bands?
Would most buzzbands 'kill' for a 7.9?
Is Radiohead allowed 2 be 'Best New Music' because they are old & tired?
Do u <3 or h8 Radiohead?

Fox News names Radiohead's "The King of Limbs" as the #1 album of 2k11

Fox News is a popular conservative TV channel for people who want 2 interpet the world with a a conservative-wave vibe. I usually don't even care abt politics, because 'right vs. left' is less important 2 me than the 'mainstream vs alt' chicken-or-egg type of argument that might never end. However, I saw this video where some talking head bro on Fox News calls Radioheads The King of Limbs the #1 album of 2k11. It is kinda weird 2 know that Radiohead is officially a 'conservative/right-wing rock band', but I guess they decided it was a better idea to sell their albums in WalMart instead of giving them away 4 free.

Some talking head bro calls the album "The great post-dubstep ambient soul record that the world has been waiting for." I guess he really knows what he is talking abt. Feel like maybe Pitchfork should 'give him an internship' or something.

Do these bros seem like they are trying 2 do some zany satire on the state of indie music, or is this bro truly passionate abt Radiohead? Do u think he likes to unwind by doing mad drugs and watching his lava lamp vibe out while he listens to The 'head?

Is 'GAME OVER' the new 'crushed it'?

Will Piers Morgan 'save CNN'?
Is Fox News more alt than CNN?
Is Radiohead's "King of Limbs" the #1 album of 2k11?
Is it the #1 album of the decade?
Is it the #1 album of the century?

Radiohead releases new music video where Thommy Yorke dances around like a slutwaver
</embed>

Here is a new music video for some Radiohead song called "Lotus Flower" off their new album "The King of Chopping off Limbs." It really sounds like any other radiohead song. Abstract rock n roll, 'deep' percussion, 'guitars coming from altered zones', Thom's voice whining like a sad lil man who wants more out of life. Not sure if we can say that Radiohead has 'evolved' as a band, but maybe their formula is just 'perfect' like Coca Cola, so they don't really have 2 innovate any more.

Anyways, it seems like Thom really 'wants the spotlight' in this video. He dances around alone, probably trying to prove that he did the most work on this album.

Not sure if I really vibe to the new slutwave Thom. It sorta reminds me of 'accidentally going gay' for 1 night or something, and you end up getting a really dark handjob. Just really negative unchill vibes for me, due to the Radiohead aesthetic + Thom.

Is Thom Yorke trying to be 'more progressive' than Win Butler?
Are 'critics' going to 'love' this album 'no matter what'?
Does Radiohead even have 2 try any more?
Does all of their music sound the same?
Is Radiohead for overground cool dads who want to 'feel like they are doing drugs without doing drugs'?
Should Radiohead give away their album 4 free?
Should Thom Yorke 'go solo' and ride slutwaves?

Radiohead tries 2 kill the Arcade Fire's vibe by releasing new album this week

the king of limbs radiohead album art
After the Arcade Fire won the most important Grammy of the year, 'going mainstream' for the sake of indie, it seems like Radiohead had to 'respond' and steal the headlines away. It must be a UK thing, like they wanted to let North America know that their music is 'way better'/'more relevant' than the crap we export from here. Really an unchill indie move by them, but I guess u shouldn't expect anything more from 'the Owl City of dubstep' as many critics call them.

The members of Radiohead say they'll make their eighth full-length album, The King of Limbs, available for purchase and download this coming Saturday on the band's website. According to the site, they're calling it "the world's first newspaper album." It includes two 10-inch vinyl records, a CD, more than 600 pieces of artwork and a digital download. The physical album will ship on May 9, while the downloadable version will be available Saturday.

Oh damn. Ur not gonna In_Rainbows that shit? Guess yall are pretty greedy. Fans are definitely gonna be pissed that they are gonna have 2 purchase ur album. What's the deal with being abt Limbs? Why do yall gotta be all dark all the time, Thom? Cmon bro... Ride some positive vibes 4 once in ur life.

When Radiohead released its previous album, In Rainbows, the band allowed fans to download the record for whatever price fans felt like paying. This time, the band is again self-releasing the album, but is charging a fixed price.

If I wanted to buy a fixed price album with bundled goodies, I'd buy some crappy indie albums off bandcamp.

Feel like Radiohead are 'the biggest dicks in the world right now. U know how much this meant 2 indie. We gotta share headlines. U shoulda let the Arcade Fire have their day 2 bask in the positive vibes of the internet. Ur selfish. Shame on u, Thom Yorke... Shame on u.

Win Butler has got 2 be mad pissed at Thom Yorke right now. Not very chillwave of Thom at all.

R u 'excited' for this Radiohead album?
Was In_rainbows mad overrated?
Did they peak in the 1990s?
Are they gonna win 'album of the year' because they will make hybrid dubstep + alt rock music?
R u angry at Radiohead for stealing blog headlines from the Arcade Fire when we are supposed 2 be working 2gether 2 help our indie scene?
Is it gonna be mad annoying 2 read memes abt Radiohead for the next _ weeks/years/centuries?
Should we just put a bunch of reverb on some Muse songs and pretend it is Radiohead?
