Au Revoir Simone - Shadows (The Teenagers Remix)

I remember a long time ago when the Teenagers were remix gods, they had a remix of Au Revoir Simone's song "Fallen Snow." Can't believe history is repeating itself, yall. I feel like I've been on the internet for a long time, but it seems like I was listening to teens rmxes just yesterday. Wonder if music has 'grown' or 'stayed the same.' Wonder if bloghouse is 'still alive' or 'dead 4ever.'

I listened to the latest Au Revoir Simone album, and I think it is 'better than their last 1.' I still think they are just some sort of keyboard club marketing experience for entry-level alt females, and a product for altbros to listen to when remixed by authentic electro producers [via Aeroplane and Shinichi Osawa].

Do yall like this Teenagers remix? Might put this and the original version on mix CD for girl who I am over-aggressively trying 2 date even though she is not smart enough to realize why my personal brand is more authentic than any other bro in my local scene.

I 'feel excited' about the Aeroplane remix of this song [via viral video teaser]. It seems like a thick-ass banger. I can't wait to illegally download it and put it on my iPod nanoTouch.

Heard n e good Teenagers Remixes Lately?

I remember back during the Remix Economy's golden age in 2k6k7, the Teenagers were able to deliver on a wide range of remixes, usually taking the song to a new level. That's what remixes are for, yall...to appeal 2 more people. <3 cross branding <3

N e ways, have yall heard about Vampire Weekend? They are pretty buzzworthy. I think I saw them on MTV/in a respected online music magazine/saw them on a mainstream late nite talk show.

Who would have thunk that the first time I would listen 2 Vampy Weekend would be [via Teenagers Remix]?

Mixed Gender Bands

Men and women are important contributors towards the creation of modern alt-ish music. Now, more than ever, we are able to put aside stereotypes of women being incompetent, and men being the source of all that is good. We can appreciate bands for who they are, no matter if they consist of male members, female members, or any mix of both.

Mixed gendered bands are pretty interesting from a consumer perspective. Would it be fair to assume that 'a band with both male and female members' has the best chance of appealing to a broader audience of male and female fans? Is the Arcade Fire more approachable because they have women in their band? I'd say that a band is not truly a MIXED GENDER BAND when there is a female lead singer who pretends to play tamborine sometimes. It would be kind of like this live Scarlett Johansson performance of a cover from her latest album.

(Pretty awkward/worthless/I am not interested in finding out that she has a personality and is creative.)

I think when it comes to 'popular music', most people think of women as only singers. Sometimes female pop stars claim to be writers, but then they end up writing a song like Britney Spears' "Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman." In the latest crop of alternative music, I think there's probably one of the strongest economies of women-who-are-actually-talented-and-applying-their-musical-skills-to-create-good-music.

How do you feel about women in music? Remember when Paul McCartney's wife was in Wings, but every one knew she didn't really do that much? Are we breaking away from that stereotype?

Here's a few blurbz about mixed gendered bands.
****CSS****
Sometimes I wonder how much I actively like the band CSS, or if I just like a few of their songs. I know "Let's Make Love And Listen to Death From Above" is as catchy as it gets, and they also have the most viewed video in the history of youtube, "Music is My Hot Hot Sex." I wonder if I would be creeped out if a dude was the one who wanted to 'make love and listen to DFA.'

CSS were pioneers when it came to branding the 'cute, exotic, yet kind of dirty looking' female.

*****G C***
Maybe deep down inside of me, I enjoy Glass Candy because Johnny Jewel and Ida No remind me of a mom-and-dad type of relationship.

*****NYPC***
The New Young Pony Club has a female majority. I wonder if there is one dude who is the brains behind it. Does any one know what this band is up to? I feel like I deserve a New Young Pony Club remix per month, just since their music is so approachable and/or remixable.

***TGT*****
The Go Team has a handful of women. Do you think that there should be a limit on how many members can be in a 'band'? Did you like any other songs other than "Huddle Formation"? I feel like mixed gendered bands are guaranteed one pretty catchy hit, but they can also be doomed to 'be that band that only has one song that I listen to a lot.'

</embed>

********
Teenagers in Tokyo is a majority-female group.

I feel like their song "Very Vampyr" might have perfected the genre of cute-dancey-thrash-chant rock.

</embed>

When I see mixed-gendered indie bands, I wonder if there is one male who 'basically writes most of the songs.' I think an advantage of being a mixed gender bands is that if your female members are cute enough, you have a better chance of turning a mediocre, some-what annoying song into a cute dancey pop song.

I used to think Le Tigre was a mixed gender band. Is it fair to assume that bands that are 100% female have a smaller chance of appealing to men than bands that are 100% male appealing to women? More girls are probably willing to love Interpol or DMB than there are guys willing to love to Electrelane or Le Tigre.

Bands like Coldplay and U2 prove that all-male bands will always be the biggest bands in the world. However, bands like Fleetwood Mac and Sonic Youth prove that mixed gendered bands are great for getting fans to truly identify with and genuinely love your band's catalog of work.

Overall, women are valuable members of modern alternative bloghouse indie post-dance rock music. It's a good time to be a music fan. We even live in a world where people are allowed to convince themselves that Uffie has a unique, valuable rap style.

How do you feel about women? Is their place still in the kitchen?
Are mixed gendered bands better than all-female or all-male bands?
Are there any women producers who make bangers that I need to know about?

Chromeo: Overbranded and too Gimmicky?

In the past month, I've scanned a lot of 'TOP SONGS/TOP ALBUMS of 2007', and of course there are the obvious choices. Most TOP SONGZ lists fall between the range of 'what sounded fun but won't be memorable' (this is what HIPSTER RUNOFF's list will be 60% about) and 'Stuff that we will probably remember in 10 years' (this blog made a halfway accurate list that's worth glancing at/making a hilarious comment at).

When it comes to bands that have been successful this year, and ended up having an awkward performance on a late night show indicating their crossover appeal with people who actually BUY music, I've been a bit surprised that Chromeo hasn't left a more memorable dent in these lists.

While I know 'of course it's just Chromeo', I think that their level of PRESS + BlogLuv + demand for mp3s has warranted them more 'end of year list' consideration. I will always download a Chromeo MP3, but they're definitely not on my end of year list!

'We're Chromeo. Every1 can like us.'

BURNING QUESTIONS about Chromeo's band business model:
1. Has VICE overbranded or misbranded them?
2. Would they be more 'critically acclaimed' if they were still 'just 2 dudes' instead of band with a marketing machine behind them?
3. Do they need more extreme differentiation strategies?
3a. Should the gangster looking dude turn into a robot?
4. In terms of 'the mainstream appeal' that they have, has their sound slotted them into being associated with 'OMG! this sounds like a 1 hit wonder from the 80s!'
5. How has Chromeo managed to warrant HYPE but not necessarily the BEST of 2K7-ability. Did Justice's 'D.A.N.C.E.' take the annual 'I know this song is a gimmick, but I have to put one electrodancey song on my list' slot?

In conclusion, 'Whatever! Just keep me dancin' Chromebros! Yall are pretty alright. Don't let any one keep you from following ur dreams. It doesn't matter what bloggers say.'

Teenagers Love Blogs

A lot of people could probably complain about the Teenagers' core interest being built by something as flighty as the blogosphere, but that shouldn't take away from their historical relevance when we're looking back in 10 years.

Never has a band satiated my appetite for them on such a consistent basis, with the right amount of content to keep me excited about them for nearly a year. Their stream of demos, remixes, originals, and videos are all worth blogging about, by as many blogs as possible.

The Teenagers have convinced me that there's no such thing as too much Teenagers and there's never enough Teenagers.

Here's some pretty solid remixes of/by the Teenagers. I'm looking forward to what CFCF will do in 2008.

The Teenagers Are the Most Bloggable Band in the history of the Post-HypeMachine World

The Teenagers have established a formidable business model in the post-HypeMachine world. With approachable original songs that carry their own weight in their demo format, and memorable remixes of the same songs, The Teenagers will be emulated for years to come. In addition, their ability to remix other bands has increased their profile dramatically. While "Homecoming" could have been a Top Song for a week or two, remixes have increased its listenability by over 1000%.

Their user pics and utilization of gifs perfectly utilize the power of imagery in the modern world where Top 8s mean everything. This blog post is more interesting because of this GIF.

The Teenagers have forced the hands of the bloggers and made it clear that they are too bloggable not to blog about, even if your blog focuses on all of that new dance crap or that 'significant' organic crap.

SLUTTT Needs YOU!

Our favourite female in the music scene, SLUTTT, is calling on all myspacers to help her out with the album art for her upcoming EP. SLUTTT writes songs that help us understand the modern female, with lyrics like "I love myself more than you could ever love me." Or "I hate my mom and dad. They don't know shit. I just wanna get fucked up, high, and that's it!" Her image is incredibly post-authentic, so send her a friend request.

When Remixes Sound Better Than Originals: Vol I

I'm a Teenagers fan, and a fan of the Teenagers remixes. I found about the song "Face" by Black Ghosts from the Teenagers. It's nice to have both songs, but should I feel guilty for saying that I enjoy the remix of "Face" more than the original version?

By the way, have you seen the LEGO video by the Black Ghosts? It's been blogged about pretty hard. I think it's pretty noble, but gets kind of awkward towards the end. Definitely worth a scroll-through, at least.

Well, it's not really invading the United States. Does INVADING mean playing the big cities like New York, Chicago, or LA? At what point can you call it an INVASION? When they have 25+ dates, including Jacksonville, FL, Baton Rouge, LA, and Marfa, TX?
