Listening to Spoon, reflecting on my indie past...

[MP3]
Spoon Got Nuffin

I am listening to the band Spoon. They have a new song, and I think that it 'sounds very good', but I think for the most part they have 'always sounded very good.' I feel like Spoon is a band from 'a long time ago'--like back when teens at the turn of the century were 'deciding to be indie', they often used SPOON as a goto band for 'connecting with 1 another.'

Since then, I think Spoon has 'consistently released a quality product', because I think they are 'good musicians/producers' and I think that the lead singer bro has 'an authentic voice.' For a while, I think I would have called people who like Spoon 'entry level alts', or possibly 'mainstreamers who like maltstream products', but now I think I will just start listening to songs like this, and reflecting on my past. Just don't have enough time on this Earth to h8 on people just because they like bands that a product that 'can appeal 2 any 1.' [via the MGMT theory]

Think I've really grown up a lot, and my taste has really evolved into something very authentic, if I am willing to consider 'shitting upon' Spoon just bc they have 'been around for like 100 blog years.'

Who is yalls fave 'vintage' indie band?

The most 'relevant' MP3s of the past _ days/blogyears.

[MP3]
Air France GBG Belongs to Us

Analysis: I feel 'good' about having Air France in my iTunes library. I think they are conceptual, and use different noises in their music. I think like this. Feel like they might be a better executed version of a band like The Tough Alliances. Not sure 'how good' I think they are, but would probably listen to their album when I want to 'chill by myself' or 'have people over' or something.

[MP3]
The Very Best Warm Heart of Africa

Analysis: I think that this song features the lead bro of the hit blog buzz band 'The Vampire Twilight Weekends.' Kinda weird how vampires got so mainstream after that song 'go so big.' I am not sure how I am supposed to describe this song. It might be sort of like 'African' but might also 'sound like Panda Bear.' Feeling confused about how to 'interpret it.' Might not be 'cultured enough' to 'fully wrap my head around it.' Might read a p4k review of their album to have a better context/understanding [via number rating].

[MP3]
Delorean Deli

Analysis: I think this band remixed the Teenagers a while ago. Think that this song is 'pretty okay.' Reminds me of the Friendly Fires, but maybe not as directly meaningful. They are from Spain, so maybe there is a language/aesthetic barrier. Seems 'decently chill', though. Sort of enjoying it. Think they have a new EP coming out. Might be good, but might be 'forgettable.'

[MP3]
Papercuts Future Primitive

Analysis: Think this song is like 100 blog years old, but I 'only recently actually listened to it. I think I 'wrote them off' because they seemed like a 'forgettable band' with a sort of mediocre/gimimcky indie name. But I am 'really enjoying this song.' Seems like a more vulnerable-sounding version of Young Folks" by the PBJ. Really enjoying it. Wonder if it is 'secretly' a 'song of the year' candidate type of song [via according 2 respected blogs].

Have yall heard any relevant music lately?
Feels 'very good' to listen to music after not hearing it 4 such a long time. Might buy 'huge headphones'.

Is HIGHLIFE the next Animal Collective / Ariel Pink / Gang Gang Dance / Here We Go Magic / Pashy Pit / Conceptual Core Buzzband?

I was reading the popular tastemaking MP3 blog, GuerillasVsPandaBears, and heard this song that is conceptual by a band called HIGH LIFE. It apparently has members from Gang Gang Dance and members of Ariel Pink's backing band. I think that this means that they are conceptual, modern pop composers, and utilize elements of some of my favourite modern bands.

I am considering 'getting very excited' about this 'pleasant lil conceptual ditty.' I remember when HERE WE GO MAGIC first emerged and were just 'some relatively unknown blog buzz band.' Now they are opening for the Grizzly Bears.

I feel like this song mixes 'tons of modern indie-ish' techniques from bands that I <3 and h8. Still not sure how to feel about it. Might get excited after hearing 2.3 more mp3s by this band. Just want to listen 2 more conceptual-core pop.

Meaningful bloggable MP3s

Hey yall. Thought I might post and review some bloggable electro tracks.

[MP3]
VEGA No Reasons

Grade: 6.8943 out of 10 runoffs
Analysis: This song is pretty chill. Apparently Vega has an 'EP' coming out. Wondering if it will 'actually be good electro.' I think pitchfork reviewed this track, so that means that it is 'more than just bloghouse' and might be 'better than lifelike' but not as good/branded as Daft Punk. I think that since they got in some sort of physical altercation with Crystal Castles after a show in Texas, they have infiltrated the mainstream indie music memesphere.

Grizzly Bear Two Weeks (Fred Falke Remix)

</embed>

Grade: 5.0202 out of 10 runoffs
Analysis: I feel like I 'really like' Grizzly Bear, and I 'really like' Fred Falke, but I find it 'hard to get into this remix' as a whole. Sometimes I pretend I am listening to a Fred Falke song, but then sometimes I just feel 'confused.' I think it is a good product, but I just don't think it is my thing. Think it might be for more of the indie-centric bros who are going to 'like this remix' but have never listened to bloghouse electro like me. I feel like it lost some of the things that I 'really like' about the original song, but I guess that's why Fred Falker gets paid $6000 per remix--he knows more than I do.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs Heads Will Roll (Weird Tapes Remix)

Grade: 1.994 out of 10 runoffs
Analysis: Weird Tapes was one of those electro bands that was 'mysterious' back in 2k8. I think it means that they have 'made it' if they got to remix the YYYs. Feel like this remix isn't 'that good' but I think it is nice to have on my computer or something. Think I like Memory Cassette more than Weird Tapes though. Think they are merging into one thingy called Memory Tapes. Hope they can have a good next step and grow out of being an anonymous group.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Version)

</embed>

Grade: 7.1923 out of 10 runoffs
Analysis: I feel like this song is 'very good.' I am not sure what LISZTOMANIA even means, though. I think it's kinda weird how ppl are 'getting really into the pop sounds of Phoenix' but sometimes u don't even really know what the hell they are talking about in their lyrics. Much like Vega, I think Classixx are penetrating the 'mainstream indie-centric music memesphere.' In addition to this rmx of the 'highly blggble' band Phoenix, they have some new song with a bro from the dead band JUNIOR SENIOR. There is some krappy video of it directed by the cobrasnake, but that makes the video 500% more memeable. Might actually 'tug' to the girl in the video chilling around Southern California.

</embed>

Think that this song is 'really good' too. Would probably listen to it on repeat in my iTunes. Think that their songs are both 'chill' and 'happie.'

Have yall heard any good bloggable mp3s lately?

The xx seems chill.

[MP3]
The xx Crystalised

Grade: 6.125 out of 10 runoffs

Review: The xx are four 19 year olds from London. Think that they seem pretty 'kewl.' Wish I could have made [HIGHLY BLOGGABLE] mp3s at age 19. I feel like the song seems 63% more intriguing when u see the entire band, and they 'look cool.' If you look at the band, they seem to have a 'normal bro', 'fashion-y bro,' 'kewl looking fierce girl', and 'normal girl.' Think these are 4 great identities to have in a band. I don't think there is anything wrong with 'liking music' mostly because it 'achieves an aesthetic that makes u feel kewl' even when ur not sure why. From what I have read on wikipedia, this was a driving factor in the rise of bloghaus.

I also think that this song "VCR" might be 'not that good' but I think it might be honest and simple, and might be good to like put on a mix CD for a girl because there is a female singer on it.

[MP3]
The xx VCR

I feel like a band like this might 'get big' in some sort of hybrid model that mixes that shitty band THE PLAIN WHITE T's with Feist model. ' 1-2-3-4' types of songs.

DESIRE: A New Product by Johnny Jewel, LLC

[MP3]
Desire Dans Mes Reves

Grade: 6.1243 out of 10 runoffs
Review: From what I have 'internet researched', DESIRE is a new sound project utilizing the Johnny Jewel + 1 female structure. These bands essentially rely on the high level italo disco core production capabilities of Johnathan Jewel, and hope that the female is 'marketable'/'has a sexie dreamie voice/look.'

Should have taken acid with yall...

[MP3]
Neon Indian - Should Have Taken Acid With You

Grade: 7.267 out of 10 runoffs
Review: Neon Indian is apparently a new band that 'might cross over into the internet mainstream.' Have heard some of their songs, and they seem 'sort of electro' but also 'modern in a way that isn't 'predictable bloghouse bullshit' that 'people frown down upon.' Sort of like the 'lofi authenticity required to take Ariel Pink seriously' and 'authentic sampling that proves a band from myspace is more than just some electro altbros.'

Think that their song SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ACID WITH YOU is probably the best 100% 'new' song that I have heard this year. It is short and pleasant, which is probably 'what more songs should try to be' in the modern world.'

Metric - Help I'm Alive (The Twelves Remix)

Grade: 5.88 out of 10 runoffs
Review: I remember how I always thought that the MSTRKRFT remix of Metric's "Monster Hospital" was better than 'regular Metric.' Haven't heard the original version of this song, but I might avoid it 4ever. I think that Metric has a new album out. Not even sure if this is a 'review.' Just posting some [HIGHLY BLOGGABLE] electro. Feel like this is a song that I will 'enjoy' for the next several years.

I think this is my list of favourite Broken Social Scene sub-bands:
1. The Feists
2. The Kevin Drews
3. Metric
4. Stars

Remember when Canada first invaded indie rock?

When do yall wanna stop working?

[MP3]
Poney Poney When Do You Want To Stop Working? (Pacific Remix)

Grade: 4.8745 out of 10 runoffs
Review: From what I understand, I am supposed to appreciate pop music from France, like Phoenix and bands like that who 'write well crafted pop, but sing in English.' I think remixes are pretty kewl, too. Think this track is 'nice to have' in ur iPod library. Need 2 blog more about tracks that are 'nice 2 have around' since they are not asking u to consider them the best song ever written. PARA ONE produced the original version of this song and Xavier DeRosnay is apparently producing their next album/produced their old stuff.

Grade: 5.639 out of 10 runoffs

Review: I remember when I used to be an altbro in 2k7, I wondered if 'blog house'/'alt electro' would ever become 'good enough' to morph into 'modern pop music.' Feel like I wanted to be a proud father of relevant electro acts, but still feel hostile about these acts 'going mainstream.' Not sure if people even really LIKE Justice, or if new markets just have a demand for an 'electro act that we are supposed 2 kinda deify kinda like the Daft Punks.'

"Cheerleader" a song by Grizzly Bear [Track Review]

[MP3]
Grizzly Bear Grizzly Bear

Grade: 8.452 out of 10 runoffs
Review: From what I understand, the new album by Grizzly Bear will be auto-placed into the Top 5 albums of 2k9. I guess that means I am supposed to rate it in comparison to the album by the Animal Collectives called Merriweather Post Pavilion. Looking back at MPP era, I feel kinda 'sad' and 'ashamed' of 'how excited' our society was about an album.

WAVVES bro

I was at a relevant music festival/conference, and I had the opportunity to experience the WAVVES live experience at a relevant party held by the relevant blog GorillaVsBear.

From what I have read on the internet, WAVVES is 'the next big thing' according to internet music websites. I have listened to his song about being 's00 b0red', but I am not sure if it appeals to me. He seems like a chill bro who plays gigs in comfortable sports wear.

[MP3]
WAVVES So Bored

Grade: 1.3 out of 10 runoffs

A lot of times, bands like this come along, and they achieve this aesthetic that is like fuzzy/garage rock/nihilist/beach-guitar-bro/post-punk/etc, or probably some more formal genre that I am not aware of. It seems to appeal to the core demographic of 'music critics' who are men between the ages of 28-48. This means that Generation Y is not represented by many authentic 'tastemaking' music information sources (and probably rightfully so).

So while I 'get' that this music is good for some reason, I don't think that any one who is Generation Y or below should really 'get into it', but if ur an 'older bro who likes music', maybe u can share what makes it 'good'/'relevant-sounding' so that I can understand the modern musiccriticismsphere. Maybe I have 'too many pop sensibilities' since my parents 'listened to a lot of ______' while I was growing up.

Maybe I just feel more comfortable with a band like MGMT getting pseudo-'critical acclaim' until it is 'driven into the ground' because of its aesthetic gimmick/poppy consumer-core sounds than I am with these bands that will be 'forever-authentic.' I think these people appeal to the 'alternative post-GenXers who grew up reading Vice Magazine.' Still trying to 'get' these alts since I have had to alienate them to appeal to tweens (a more valuable demographic for advertisers).

Previous band that I don't 'get': No Age
http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/2008/05/no-age-got-a-92-on-pitchfork-but-i-still-dont-get-why-i-should-appreciate-them-2.html

Does n e understand what I am trying 2 say? Just trying to 'make sense' of bands that are [HIGHLY BUZZWORTHY] that aren't instantly accessible 2 me.

Do yall give WAVVES a thumbs up or thumbs down?

This Cover is pretty 'alright'

MP3 REVIEW
We Have Band - West End Girls (Pet Shop Boys Cover)

Review: I am still trying to figure out how much/why I like We Have Band. I think I made a gimmick post about them where I called them 'the next Metronomy'. Sort of wish they were around 2 years earlier during the golden age of bloghouse. Most covers are 'kinda dumb' and 'forced', but I think this one is 'chill' and 'well-executed.

Uffie will attempt to ‘crossover’ by having Pharrell Williams on one of her tracks

</embed>

Uffie is preparing her upcoming album, and she has a song with Pharrell Williams / The Neptunes in order to try to 'crossover.' I think they are mainstream producers, but I don't think they have had a hit in a while. Not sure if this song is supposed to be 'the single' or something. Not sure if this song is even good, or if her album is 'gonna tank.'

Stream:

</embed>
French rapper/club girl Uffie (born Floridian Anna-Catherine Hartley) hooked up with Pharrell for this new single off of her upcoming debut, Sex, Dreams, and Denim Jeans. Mirwais, who helped out on much of the album, produced this track, and it sounds much more like something out of fellow Frenchies Justice's playbook than most of the stuff Pharrell has been up to lately. Which is probably for the best. His verse is kind of lame and unimaginative, and is mired in a layer of Auto-Tune that sounds a little dated at this point.

Wonder if Busy P (Pedro Winter) and Pharrell had a lot to clean up after Uffie left the studio. Wonder if Pharrell is a 'good match' for the Ed Banger sound, or if they should have focused on ripping off Ke$ha / Lady Gaga.

Do u think this new Uffie song is good, or will she have to 'step it up' now that the Crystal Castles album has leaked?
Will Uffie bring back blog house / French Electro?
Is Ed Banger 'dead' or are they waiting 4 a new Justice album?
