Dealing With Tragedy: The Power of a Youtube Tribute

A new theme that HRO will continue to explore is coping with tragedy. As the internet evolves, our society (and tweens) are finding modern ways to cope with loss and/or tragedy. For example, there were the infamous 9-11 alts who ended up on their city's local news. Was wearing replicas of the World Trade center too much, or was their perspective just too progressive for most people?

Is there an authentic space that exists where we can truly pay our respects by honoring our genuine perception of the event? Where is the line between 'funnie', 'inappropriate' and 'as terrible as it could possibly get' when it comes to modern coping.

Here is this video tribute to DJ AM & Travis Barker. They were in an accident that you wouldn't wish upon any one. As the internet evolves and tweens have dehumanized celebrities into fake entities, will this be the future of 'authenticity' when it comes to dealing with loss+tragedy?

These girls have communicated at 100% capacity, conveying their complete perspective on the TRV$ DJ-AM plane crash. Should I find this offensive, or representative of reality?

P0ST M0RE Audio Equipment Tattos

I never realized the drummer for the hit band that created hit songs like "all da small thangs", "dammit (yall)", and "What's my Zany Age Again?" has a BOOMBOX TATTOO on his tummy. People love getting audio equipment tats. I think it proves that they are genuine music fans. A lot of people think 'reading music blogs' makes them authentic music fans, but until u get an audio equipment tat, u don't truly luv music.

I don't think his boombox is as loud as this tat boombox. But some people don't like boomboxes and just get headphone tattoos. Some people with headphone tattoos also get turn table tattoos. Has n e 1 seen an iPod tattoo, or are people afraid to get those since they change them every 6 months? I guess we'll have to settle for people getting APPLE logo tattoos.

(What other logos should this bro get to represent his personal brand? Mountain Dew? Hot Pockets? Halo 4? )

N e ways...What's the deal with Travis Barker? He gets to 'remix' a bunch of songs by drumming over them. I think that if he lived in Blogville, he would be executed in public because that's what happens to teen-electro remixers who just put electronic drumbeats over mp3s and call them 'remixes.'

Do u remember the days when Blink182 was able to jump on the bursting Boy Band bubble and give mainstreamers a product that helped them distance themselves from taking boybands seriously?

'say it aint s0,
I will n0t g0,
turn the lytes off,
carry me h0me.'

Travis Barker and A-Trak play their first show 2gether.

A-Trak is an mildly alt DJ. Travis Barker is a reality TV Celeb, and the drummer from the hit band Blink 182. After the untimely death of DJ AM, Travis Barker had to find a new bro to DJ while he played the drums. On March 9 at the Roxy in Los Angeles, these bros apparently played their first show 2gether. Not sure if it was 'good' or 'bad', since I don't really know how to evaluate this type of music/live experience.

Seemed like an ambient vibe.

"Let's fucking serato the fuck out of this place, bro.'

Wonder if DJ Mom Jeans was mad pissed that he didn't get to collab with Travis Barker, or maybe T Bark didn't trust his DJ skills.

Many fans paid tribute to DJ AM in tshirt format.

Never 4get.

A lot of people don't believe DJing is a real art, so it is hard for them to take drumming over DJing seriously.
Do u believe in the future of this genre?
Does this new band have to pay licensing fees to the artists who they utilize, sorta like the radio/Girl Talk?
Is it still authentic to be a DJ, or are chill wave artists getting higher booking fees in 2k10?

Travis Barker moves past death of DJ AM, starts 'band' with DJ A-Trak

Travis Barker, reality star and popular drummer from the popular band Blink 182, was recently in a plane crash which killed several of his friends. DJ AM survived, but then overdosed on drugs. DJ AM and Travis Barker were in a band together where DJ AM spun mainstream hits on his turn tables, and Travis Barker emotionally drummed over the music.

Even though DJ AM died, Travis Barker is still interested in 'making mad bank' from the DJ economy. His projects most likely get 'mad booking fees' which enable his rocker lifestyle. In order to move forward, he hired the popular DJ A-Trak to 'make sweet jams' with him.

Do they seem like a chill duo?

The duo will perform versions of each other’s remixes (they’ve reworked tracks for everyone from Eminem and Soulja Boy Tell’em to MSTRKRFT and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), plus new material they’ve been working on in Barker’s Los Angeles studio. Or, at least, that’s the plan right now.

In 2004, before Kanye was a human meme ball, A-Trak was hired as his tour DJ. A-Trak seems to have had 'mainstream exposure' in the past. Do yall think Blink 182 will sign to Fool's Gold Records, A-Trak's Record Label?

Do yall support Travis Barker for 'moving on'?

Do yall support the demographic of mainstreamers and bros who 'eat up' Travis Barker drumming over some generic DJ mix?
Is Travis Barker an overrated drummer/artist with an excellent monetization scheme?
Is A-Trak alt?
Will their new album 'top' Pitchfork's charts in 2k11?
