MP3 REVIEW
We Have Band - West End Girls (Pet Shop Boys Cover)

Review: I am still trying to figure out how much/why I like We Have Band. I think I made a gimmick post about them where I called them 'the next Metronomy'. Sort of wish they were around 2 years earlier during the golden age of bloghouse. Most covers are 'kinda dumb' and 'forced', but I think this one is 'chill' and 'well-executed.

Is WE HAVE BAND the next METRONOMY?

Love how this video demonstrates how s0 many different people & sounds converge to form 1 hit authentic song.

We Have Band =

  • conceptually satisfying
  • may or may not 'sound good' to every1
  • mixed race band full of marketable members with solid personal brands
  • has a blipster
  • has a kreative white guy
  • has a possible HRO krush
  • a lil bit dancey
  • a lil bit conceptual in a poppy Metronomy kinda way
  • might be postElectro
  • might be postBlogHouse

In a world where most products don't satisfy your demand for a 'well-executed aesthetic that isn't immediately accessible to mainstreamers', never underestimate the power of a Conceptually Satisfying Product (CSP). CSPs stand out from 'what already exists' and makes you more authentic for 'appreciating them' in a way that most ppl will never be able to.

WE HAVE BAND, YALL.

I am pretty into WE HAVE BAND in the way that any authentic tastemaker should be. I think they mix a bunch of aesthetics that are worthy of my authenticcoolhunting attention. Wonder where they will be after a few 'interesting' music videos + effective utilization of the remix economy (import & export).

The song 'You Came Out' appeals to me because:

  • it is a mix of automatic + 'organic' instruments
  • perceived as kind of lofi/authentic recording process
  • the girls sounds keut/interesting/dancey
  • whistling makes me remember 'the first time I heard YOUNG FOLKS' mixed with 'the first time I heard HOMECOMING'
  • Sounds like it has the opportunity to be a Song of the Blog Year, which u and ur group of friends will remember kind of like 'the time _____ had that party, and at the time u were listening to a lot of LETSMAKELOVE/SADSADCITY/YOUNGFOLKS/D.A.N.C.E./TEENSRMXes/etc.'
  • I'm just searching for songs to define the eras of my meaningful life, yall. This one might be representative of my transition phase between bloghouse to authentic disco.
