I gotta be honest, I am not really that into dubstep, I am basically just 'reacting' to it invading the mainstream indiesphere. Artists like James Blake, Jamie xx, Thommy York, and Skrillex are trying to go 'dubstream', but at the same time, there are probably tons of other totally authentic underground dubstep artists like burial, and the tranny bro in this video, hyping up her new single that is totally hot!
I am sorta interested in the future of the dubstep aesthetic. Figuring out who will ultimately 'own' the genre, who will be remembered as the #1 dubstepper of all time? Is it an authentic genre, or just a 'flavor of the week' aesthetic that Britney Spears utilized and then tons of lamestreamer Middle Americans tried too hard to be like, "I'm totally gonna pump this out of my car stereo."
Really into this dubstep tranny's dubstep single 'dropping' on iTunes. It gives me hope that instead of starting a chillwave lofi buzzband, I can just hire a random ass electro bro producer and then sing nasty lyrics over it with really dark vocal effects. Is it time to become an authentic dubstepper, or is this trend totally lamestream now?
Srsly though....What kind of ppl are in2 dubstep?
a) electro bros
b) altbros
c) UK bros
d) tweens
e) tranny bros
f) tranny broads
g) lamestreamers
h) mainstreamers
i) post-chillwavers
j) Hot Topic tweens
k) buff dude bros who partie hard
l) Pitchfork-wave music critic bros
m) ppl who read NME
n) ppl who hang out on mssg boards and talk abt music
o) ppl who don't listen to internet music
p) ppl who used to listen to Linkin Park
q) Britney Spears fans
r) ppl who think Radiohead is the best band in the world
s) Bros are are still into the whole Banksy/Burial anonymous aesthetic
t) Ppl who drink Mountain Dew
u) Ppl who used to be into Taking Back Sunday
v) Bros who wear cologne
w) Bros who want vagines and bosoms
x) Bros who own headphones that cost over $300
y) Ppl who play violent video games
z) Choose.Ur.Own.Response
Is dubstep 'relevant' or just a 'BS electro fad'?
WTF is 'dubstep'?
Who invented dubstep?
Does the Tranny Bro's dubstep single seem amazing?
Please share any info abt dubbystepp that u have in the comments section of this post.
I just want to be happy.
I just want to be me.
I just want to be happy.
I just want to know that my life is meaningful.
I just want to be happy.
I just want to be able 2 xpress myself [via vlog].
I just want to be me.
I just want to be happy.
I just want to be able 2 stand up 2 my boss at my dead end job.
I just want to know that there is life after tween.
I just want to know that me = meaningful
I just want to become a famous youtuber
I just want to launch a t-shirt line at Hot Topic
I just want to be famous & have my middle class problems disappear
I just want to 'get off my ass' and 'make something' out of my life.
I just want to stand up to my boss at Auntie Anne's Soft Pretzels.
I just want to be happy.
Why is it so hard to be happy?
Am I depressed?
I just want to be me, and I want to be happy.
I am free...
Free 2 be me...
Free 2 be happie...
It's not easy being me
It's not easy being an overgrown alt tween
So much technology & social media
There is no easy way to convince the world
That my life is meaningful
But that doesn't mean that I won't keep trying.
I will never stop vlogging.
As yall know, I have been a long time member of a tween vlogging collective. We had a really great run on our youtube channel, amassing over 7.5 million views from over 7.5 million interested humans from around the world. This means we were an organic, grass roots diy global brand. We achieved more than many people with youtube accounts could ever imagine... And I am proud. Proud of me and my business partners/friends.
Unfortunately, it is time for us to 'call it quits' on our vlog collective, even though we really achieved something. We became a relevant brand within the tween community of youtube, taking the art of vlogging to the next level. We built a brand, and we decided to retire so that we could 'go out on top.' [via James Murphies]
(Full Disclosure: We also became Youtube Partners, making enough money to treat ourselves' to a meal at TGIFridays twice a year.)
A lot of people ask me why I started vlogging? Why did I turn to youtube? Why did I make my best friends on the internet?
It's really difficult being a tween/teen. Sometimes IRL, I feel like people don't understand me, so it was really good to finally meet a network of like-minded people across the world. If u weren't familiar with what we were all about...here's a video that explains it all.
We came together as artists...young people... and friends who came together to communicate, try to have some fun, to get creative and challenge eachother, to get into the world and try new things... and boy did we.
A lot of people don't realize that vlogging is an art. I am sitting on camera, telling you about my life, making DYNAMIC, INTERESTING content that is not masked behind words. It is not some dude on a blog who is hiding behind high-level ideas and conceptual literary tactics. Vlogging is just me, the camera, and U. And a little bit of iMove editing in between. A vlogging collective engages viewers on a regular basis, creating the feeling of a traditional television channel with a programming schedule, as opposed to putting the burden of extreme content creation on one human being.
We became more than just a youtube channel, more than an inspiring collection of jovial youtubers who knew how to emote into the camera in order to generate compelling content, sort of like 'high school public speaking' on steroids...We became friends. Friends from around the world, who vlogged like no one was watching, but at the same time... vlogged like every1 was watching.
I'll never forget the time a company gathered together some of the most popular youtubers on the internet, and held a 'convention' in South Florida where youtubers could come together, network, talk about how to install green screens and purchase HD cameras on the cheap. We had a live show. It went really well, and we got very interactive.
It was great to actually INTERFACE with real users, the long tail users and failed content-providers on youtube. The lamestreamers who needed some time to kill between streaming Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Rebecca Black videos.
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday when u put so much of urself into your Vlog Collective.
The truth is that we are all trying to be creative. Some people start bands. Some people go to art school. Some people start a tumblr for two weeks. We ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING and produced results. A lot of people say that youtube hits are worth 10% of a 'real hit', but they don't realize that numbers don't lie. We are more than just youtube famous. We are more famous than the Mayor of most small cities across the United States.
It's so hard
to say goodbye
to the content that I created yesterday
when there is more content to be consumed tomorrow
and I don't have the time, energy, and passion
2 keep producing premium content
I want to do 'normal teen things
I want to grow into a young adult
I don't want to have to tell people at my college that I'm a vlogger
I want to experiment with drugs, drinking, sexuality, and even producing amateur snuff films
But I need some time... some time away from my Vlog Life
as sweet as the Vlog Candy tastes
I need to build a new rewards system.
The End.
PS: Ur kinda keut....
I will miss all of u. Not just my fellow vloggers, but the community/tribe that we built. Together, we made history.
We used to be young people
We used to be artists
We used to be friends
But we all grow up
We all want grown up things
We don't want to be the 'sad 40 year old on youtube'
We don't want to be those people, who stayed past their prime
Who stayed 'past the prime of youtube'
Youtube--a dying content dump
Every time a video is uploaded... A premium vlog becomes more meaningless
It's more than just a vlog
It's my life.
It's my life.
Sometimes youtube fame
can only make u feel microfamous
Usually macrofame means ur brand is effectively monetized
When art does not equal commerce... Sometimes it is just hard 2 find an incentive to keep going
I'll miss my youtube friends
But we still have twitter, facebook, myspace, gmail, dailybooth, and Vimeo (for artsy videos)
Goodnight, sweet Tween Vlog Collective
It's time to put my vlogging behind me
I guess this is growing up
I promised myself I wouldn't cry...
*****
Do u watch 'famous youtubers'?
Do youtubers have a warped view of the world?
Do youtubers 'get rich' quick?
Are youtubes the most naive/innocent artists in the world?
Are you glad they didn't have Macbooks when u were a tween/in your early adulthood?
Do we all want so badly to believe that there is truth that your human existence is 'special' and deserves 2 be documented?
Is it sad to watch tweens 'grow up' and find a generation microtrend 'go obsolete'?
Have u met Shannon Gaga? She is arguably the world's biggest Lady Gaga fan.
Shannon Gaga: The Dead End of Western Civilization
An In Depth Profile Piece by Carles, freelance journalist and Editor N Chiefs of HRO blog
In a previous article of writing, I asked the world, "Who is the world's biggest Lady Gaga fan?" I wanted to know about a fan who completely outsourced her personal brand to Lady Gaga. Who had the balls to become 'more than just a fan', completely dedicating her life to Lady Gaga. What fan truly 'gets' Lady Gaga and has become an unofficial spokesperson for Lady Gaga?
Meet Shannon Gaga. More than just any other Lady Gaga Fan.
Some say she is 'completely out of touch with reality', but her new found fame will have her coming into a living room near u on ur television sets. She is an avalanche, picking up steam, rolling down the pop culture mountain ready to slam in ur face.
The story of Shannon Gaga is about a girl from Corpus Christi, TX, who evolved out of her cocoon into a beautiful butterfly, all by being exposed to the positive female messages transmitted by the art of Lady Gaga.
It all started with 1 lofi vlog in the dorm room of Shannon Annette Cantu's Texas State University dorm room, but through months of hard work and tons of high level exposure, it has become something more than just a youtube sensation or a story of the week. She is truly an individual who is also a lot like Lady Gaga.
Eventually, she became a bonafide super fan celebrity. She decided to take her brand to the next level by making a series of sexy videos and doing live performances around town. Her confidence grew with each show, and brought us modern marvels, like this video, where she rolls around on a campus volleyball court, pretending that the sand is a sexy beach, forming Gaga-esque sexy vibes for all of us to be inspired by.
Understanding Shannon Gaga is about as complex as understanding the Real Lady Gaga. Here is Shannon Gaga's manifesto, taken from her blog:
Manifeso
People are wondering who is "Shannon Gaga?" But that remains to be said. People have asked me 'Why Lady Gaga? What makes you so interested in her?' She inspired me. She changed me. I looked at my old journals, my old life and some old pictures and say, 'How did this happen?' Why didn't I choose Britney or when I was younger do Hilary Duff (which was a long time ago). Because GaGa did what she did. She changed me. As the song from Wicked says, "I have been changed for good..." I am sure, that whoever reads this, is either a fan or a hater. Haters-I don't think you "hate" me. We just use that word now. In fact, most of you probably dislike something about me. Maybe that I'm a big girl. Maybe that I like Lady GaGa a lot. Maybe that I love to perform and not ashamed. I'm pretty certain there are some that dislike me, because they disliked me in high school. They didn't know who I was. I just was a student at King High School. Or maybe I was smarter than you or something else. Who knows? I'm certain that if I just went to class, like Comm 1310 or something, and did 'normal' stuff. I'm pretty sure, you'll not like me either way. I am living life to the fullest. Some of you don't understand me. Well, I am a complex person. I think differently than most people, I now VERBALIZE my emotions more, and even though I may seem shy and weak every now and then. There's a tough girl behind that sweet, innocent facade. You know what? I'm doing this for fame or attention. I don't care about fame or money anymore. Fame, is something that just happened along the way. Fame is a ride-sometimes smooth like on a road, and sometimes it an emotional roller coaster-with jerks and twists and turns. And money, that's just whatever. Yes, I need money (as we all do) but it's not everything to me. Or fame. I never expected anything like this to happen. So, if you're reading this, you will know more of me. I usually give people changes-I try not to judge people. I don't care about what race you are or your sexuality or your size. Those are just labels. You all, have your ideas, of normal, and sometimes normal isn't good enough for anyone. But remember, I am Shannon Annette Cantu "Gaga" and I am proud of who I am. And whether I'm famous or not, whether I'm fat, skinny, big-boobed, or whatever, you can't change that. And Gaga, if you ever read this, I hope you learned something about me. Just like you taught me about you.
Love Shannon "Gaga" Cantu, Princess Monster
In addition, here is a selected tweet from her twitter account, @ShannonGaga20
It seems like Shannon Gaga has truly become a top tier celebrity, soon to get a record deal and end up on MTV. Fans seem to have a natural affinity towards her story. She is an artist of the people, inspired by true life and real sexual desires.
Shannon Gaga is more than just another fan. She is not just a 'Little Monster', which is what Lady Gaga calls her fan. She is a big monster, and a force to be reckoned with.
It seems like she has become a micro celebrity in the San Marcos / Austin central Texas scene. In this video, members of the campus community react to her brand since they see her wearing Gaga gear all around campus. Some say that she is truly a free spirit. Others claim that she is 'borderline retarded', and doesn't realize that people are only really laughing at her.
Just watched her get interviewed by a local radio show. They seem to keep 'cyber bullying her' about her weight, and ask her why she is wearing such a slutty dress, even though she is a massive human being. Then she gives an inspired live performance, showcasing her true vocal talents.
Does Shannon Gaga fail to 'get it', or do we fail to 'get' Shannon Gaga?
Just catching some tween vibes, feeling pretty hopefulwave vibes about life.
I've been thinking a lot about 'vibes' lately. Just trying trying to wrap my head around what 'vibes' really means, and how important 'vibes' are to the buzzosphere. It seems like all media outlets are trying to relay the 'vibes' that they are feeling 2 the human race. Sorta seems like 'vibes' a 'feeling' inside of u. Some sort of natural reaction to something. Whether it is a buzzband, a public space, a music festival, an environment, a human, or even an idea. Ur vibes are ur natural reaction 2 something.
Seems like there are 'so many ways' 2 pick up vibes.
Maybe ur vibe receptors incorporate some sort of 'sixth sense' based on your social life + upbringing + exposure to vibes over the course of ur life.
Seems like when u express urself, ur just trying 'tell people how ur vibes are.'
vibes are so abstract, yet so intuitive, kinda like explaining an iPhone 2 some1.
Vibes are particularly important to indie music fans because buzzbands give off vibes, and humans are supposed 2 react 2 them. If u like a band's vibes (both their sounds and the way they look), then u retransmit their vibes to more humans. U try to chill with this band at their live show, and be in a room where a massive vibe formed from the vibes of band playing live + the group of like-minded vibing fans.
The act of vibing seems 'so natural', like pure vibes
Just want yall 2 use this post to 'explore vibes.'
React naturally to how things make u feel, and try to explain the vibes u pick up.
Might just catch some beach vibes. Chill on the best coast, become king of the beach riding wavve vibes.
Might just get some LA-type party vibes with my girl Ke$ha. Whiskey vibes
Vibes seem grizzly. Not sure if these are authentically Veckatimesty vibes
Sorta really want to get in on the d.i.y. indie scene vlogger vibes.
Seems like true buzz humans are sending out mad positive vibes.
Might just chill out, eat some gummi worms, catch some diabetes / cavity vibes
Just vibing with the girls. Catching some fun vibes.
Feeling kinda Boom Boom Black Eyed Peas type of vibes. Will.I.Am's vibes kinda get me jacked up.
Not sure if I really want to 'go north' and catch some Canadian indie scene vibes. feeling harshed out.
The pregnant tummie really killed my vibes. It seems sweet to transmit semen vibes to hotties [via oral / anal vibes], but not sure if giving pure, Trojan-less raw vibes 2 any girl is a chill idea. Life's vibes are apparently mad harshed by lil kids.
R u vibing hard? Will u follow ur dreams?
How do u feel about 'vibes'?
Should buzzbands be more vibe conscious'?
Do u like music reviews that tell u what 'vibes' the band gives off?
Do u want to explore every vibe the earth has to offer u?
Do u h8 it when a buzzband's mp3s give u chill vibes, then u see them live, and the vibes are harsh?
What r ur fave kids of vibes that humans can give off?
What common vibe do u pick up from a new buzzband?
What vibes do u pick up from a huge indie band like the Arcade Fire?
What vibes do u pick up when u go home for thanksgiving?
Do u ever pick up harsh vibes from a homeless person?
What vibe do u get when u go over 2 ur drug dealer's house?
Are hookah bars for people who want 2 pick up entry level vibes?
Does marijuana enhance ur 'vibe receptors' or is that just a druggie myth?
Are 'Californian vibes' the most glorified vibes of all time?
Been vibing out a lot lately.
Just vibing to some vibes, both chill and harsh, trying to vibe myself in a position where vibes will always be chill.
What vibes have u been picking up lately?
I just read some article about how a British tween has become a cultural sensation + icon in Japan. Apparently, she has a youtube channel where she dances around to Japanimation anime music. Due to her figure + body type, she closely resembles an anime character (wide face, big eyes, a thin bod, and a sweet, sweet rack of formative teen breasts). Mixed with her dancing + youtubing talent, she has 'climbed to the top of the Japanese charts' since some1 found a way to monetize her. Nothing more inspiring than a youtube tween sensation 'selling units' in foreign markets.
A British schoolgirl is set to top the charts in Japan after her YouTube clips became an internet sensation.
Rebecca Flint - a 14-year-old who calls herself Beckii Cruel - releases her debut album today to much excitement in the land of the rising sun.
Her webpage is the second most subscribed by music fans in Japan and she has already performed live in Tokyo.
Rebecca, from the Isle of Man, first came to attention on YouTube where millions watched her dance to J-Pop (Japanese pop music) and the theme tunes of anime cartoons.
Feel free to watch one of her lil dance videos to 'get a better feel' on this tween.
Maybe she is the Japanese version of Miley Cyrus / Hannah Montana, except she doesn't sext pictures of herself to bros. I have a feeling that this girl probably appeals to grown Japanese men, though.
Do u feel turned on by white girls who wish they were AZN / Japanese? Or do you think men are programmed to be 'turned on' by girls ages 13-20 because those were their formative sexual years?
Maybe it doesn't matter what culture ur a part of--all that really matters is the simple truth that 'sex sells.' As 'cute' of a story it is that UK tween became a big deal in Japan, maybe they are just into her because of the same reasons America got into Britt Spears 'back in the day.'
Basically, I think she appeals to Japanese people because this is their idea of 'the perfect woman.'
Wonder how easy it is to be 'big in Japan.' It seems like an absurd place, where nothing makes sense. In America, there are tons of creative agencies that can bring products to market because the hype system in the USA is pretty standard. I wonder if it is the same way in Japan, or if it is 'totally random'?
I feel like the concept of being 'big in Japan' has sort of been branded as 'having an authentic niche of fans who appreciate your quirkiness on a level that the Western World could not.' Going to the Far East to find acceptance seems to have been around since after America dropped a couple of bombs on them. Maybe it is some sort of 'white/yellow guilt' to seek their acceptance after we 'bombed them back to the stone age.'
I would guess that people in Japan aren't really into the 'relevant indie scene.' The things that they value as pillars of mainstream / alt culture aren't really what USA + UK + Canadian markets would value. Wonder how/when our alternative paths diverged.
From what I understand, they are probably living in a different environment. A place where they have Toyotan cultural ideals of honor and fairness, but then use cartoons as a way to escape into a dream world. Maybe they are seeking some sort of insane escapism to deal with the bomb drop less than 100 years ago.
Feel like I might not overthink our cultural divide, and just watch clips of Japanese game shows. I will 'laugh' at the disconnect between American culture and Japanese culture, but then maybe come to the conclusion that 'all humans are the same' because we just want to escape from 'the grind' of daily life. We just want things 2 laugh at, things 2 distract us from how sad/trapped we might feel on the inside.
Who gets more joy out of the human Tetris meme: the Japs or the Americans?
I wonder if Beckii Cruel will become an American sensation. Like she will perform with the Jonas Brothers / Justin Bieber. I think that if those bands want to break into Japanese markets, they should probably utilize her.
Maybe Japanese people are into them because they want to be white. Lots of American whites are into black music because they 'want to be black', so maybe Beckii Cruel represents an ideal identity that they can obtain by consuming different media/art/goods.
Maybe Beckii Cruel is the new ternative.
Do yall think Beckii Cruel is 'fucking hot'?
Do u like her dance moves?
R u in2 'hentai' porn
Will Pitchfork review her new album?
What does it take to be 'big in Japan'?
Do you think Westerners who get into Eastern cultures probably had a hard time fitting in during middle + high school?
Would Japanese people 'get' AnCo?
Do u think Japanese people would find American culture to be 'fucking boring'/uninspired?
FUCK ONE, KILL ONE, MARRY ONE: Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Beckii Cruel.
Really feeling a lot of vibes from the Vampire Weekend album release. It seems like this one is 'really catching on' with 3 of the most important entry-level indie music fans:
tweens
Middle Aged men looking to recapture their youth in the spirit of music
women aged 13-55 who are having some sort of 'identity crisis' based on their lack of an identity
Honestly feel like we need to take a deep breath, and watch this band 'evolve' into the next Kings of Leon/Strokes/U2/Coldplays/etc. Sort of like how ppl watch films abt nature and think it is 'beautiful.' We just need 2 stand back, and watch 'the evolution' of a band, not worrying abt the death of __________ (negative vibe), but instead choosing 2 celebrate the life of _______(positive vibe). Maybe this is the spirit of 2k10. Gonna be watching so many former indie bands take 'the leap.' They are more than just 'a nice lil blog mp3' now. These bands are beginning 2 'mean something' 2 ppl who u don't rlly respect.
Feel like Vampy Weekend's album sales will 'shit on' all of the most relevant bands of 2k9. We must ride this consumerwave. We must trust in the numbers. The greatest good music for the greatest amount of ppl. 2k10 might be all about 'utilitarianism.'
Wonder which Vampy Weekend fan is the most authentic?
Bro #1: Bro booty dancing 2 'Horchata'
Bro #2: Mainstream bro doing stop motion projjie
Bro #3: Ultimate AltBro with strobe light
Really feeling the Vampy Weekend catch on with a lot of ppl who aren't even 'in the alt bloggy scene.' #Vampyfever is so strong right now, stronger than #Anco_fever and #Grizzbear fever from last year. Really feel like Vampy Weeks
What is ur pitchfork review of 'the new Vampy Weekend album'? Seems like a 'controversial' topic, sorta like racism + class issues in america.
Can some1 catch me up on the history/vibe of vampy weekend? Just started listening to this widget 10 minutes ago, and trying to evaluate it without my 2k9hypebacklashgoggles perspective. Maybe 'contra' is not just an album name, but a new zeitgeist for consuming art.
4 bros // 1 band
Do u have 'the fever' or are u waiting 2 catch a different strain of ________ fever later in 2k10?
What's the difference between an altbuzzband and a mnstrmbzzbnd? Which 1 would u rather be in?
R u on #TeamVampy or on #TeamLeno or on #TeamConan?
"Authentic Alt of the Day" is an exclusive HRO gimmick, featuring an authentic alternative human making an authentic display or art, individuality, or any form of modern expression.
Is Owl City the 'buzzband' of 2k9? Will they top the Postal Service in most 'band of the decade' lists?
Have yall ever made an animated video with ur BFF?
Does Owl City music make u want to live in an entry-level utopia, where all entry-level alt ideals are 'actually authentic'?
does n e 1 know if hoodies will 'come back' in 2k10, or will they be a dormant relevant trend for the next ~5 years?
miss u Los Angeles, before the mexitweens overran u with electro.
all i want 4 xmas
is authenticity
all I want 4 xmas
is a macbook with garageband
so i can make owlcitycore music 4 entrylevs.
Just saw this youtube movie Where The Dirty Hipsters Are (Wild Things Spoof) and it made me miss the glory days of 2k5-2k7, back when it was s000 funnie 2 make 'jokes about hipstars' and other interesting alternative ppl.
I wish I could go back in time to the final year of my Undergraduate Film Studies Program, and make a lil comedy youtube short that 'incidentally' 'goes viral' on the youtube. I want to make something beautiful that appeals to tons of people, inspiring them to 'chuckle' for a couple of minutes, since they 'get it', then move on with their lives'. I feel like I am in touch with modern media to accept the redefined standards of 'success' and find peace with achieving 500,000 youtube views. Maybe I won't make money from my art any more, but I can still try 2 touch the world.
I like stuff that's funny cuz it's true. Whenever I watch hipster-mockumentameme vids, I can't help but LOL-out-loud, because I totes know all of the characters already, since they mirror real members of my alternative scene. It's kinda weird how 'vapid' culture is, yall... h8 it/luv it/'get' it. Just relieved that I am me living in our bad ass society. I mean... it has it's ups and downs...but I am generally happy with where we are.
Sorta miss the golden era of the Viral Vid Hipster movement. I decided to re-watch the Hipster Olympics, and reflect on the massive impact it had on 'the scene.' I believe the most powerful art is free-online art, because tons of ppl can see it and share it with all of their friends [via their facebook pages].
Seems like some new 'hipster' videos come out, and 'exist under the radar', but it makes me wonder just how viral they could have gone if they were made during The Golden Age. They seem to each have their own unique take on things.
Sorta miss 'Hipsters in Space.' I hope that the youtube servers exist forever. One day, all blogs will die, and humans won't be able to read text any more. As the youtube generation continues to mature without reading and writing skills, the only historical artifacts left will be vlogs, videos, and viral videos.
Technology is rlly something to awe at [via being awesome]. So many artists can make beautiful with a limited budget, beyond the Macbook their parents bought 4 them and the HD video camera that they waited tables 2 obtain. It's great 2 be able to 'reflect on culture' so instantaneously at such a low cost. I feel like I am honestly living in the most special era of all time, like every war that was fought for freedom was just so that I could exist right now. I am thankful.
Are youtubes more powerful than real movies?
Is it still alt 2 'make fun of hipsters'?
What is the best web method 2 utilize 2 'make fun of hipsters'? Meme blog? Tumblr? Video? Vimeo? Tweet?
What is the 'most authentic' 'making fun of hipsters' video of all time?
WTF is a 'hipster'?
Does n e 1 know if hipsters are 'the dead end' of 'Western Civilization'?
What's 'next' after 'hipsters', or will 'hipsters' exist 4evr? Will the spirit of 'alt' live on forever?
Should I start a blog, a youtube channel, or a vimeo channel?
I saw this video, and it made me 'yearn 4 the days' of myspacers worth blogging about, a now-deceased HRO blog gimmick. It's kinda weird how we're all trying to express ourselves', and it seemed like myspace used to be the best way for tweens to do this. U could post tons of pictures, and make ur profile 'kewl kolours' and add tons of embedded images of ur favourite shit that represented u.
Then myspace became a 'graveyard' of dead profiles, not just because facebook/twitter became more authentic/functional, but as internet-centric humans, we are in a neverending search for 'the best way 2 express ourselves' via the internet. Now that all tweens+humans have 'high speed internet' and cheap hi-enuff quality videocameras/'cameras inside of their phones', the ability to show off your brand in video format is something that every1 can do.
R u thinking of starting up a youtube channel to make zany videos with ur bffs that 'go viral'?
Do u plan on making 'tons of ad revenue' via Google Adsense Ads?
What online social media tool provides u with the best creative outlet to convey the 'real u' to your 'tribe'?
I am the SleepyHeadBro.
This bro is me.
This is my youtube presence.
Sometimes I get the feeling that 'being alt' is just some sort of game. Like any1 can dress up to look alt, if you just shop at the right stores, or if you wait 1.3 years for Hot Topic to sell 'what seemed alt 2 years ago.'
Should I buy an expensive hair iron?
Should I buy a zany wrist band?
Should I buy a Palestinian Scarf?
Should I buy a time machine and live in 2k7 forever?
Should I draw 'blood' running down my nose to make ppl think that I just did 'a shit load of blow'?
Not sure who I am. Might be growing older. Might be losing touch with the tween generation. Seems like it might all just be a game of 'fucking dress up.' Not sure if ppl even really like music, or if 'enjoying music' is just aligning your personal brand with shifting aesthetics over time to represent 'personal growth.' Not sure why I like what I like. Losing it. Losing everything. Honestly don't even know what the best album of 2k9 is.
Is it no longer authentic to be 'alt'?
Was 'alt' just some sort of 'defense mechanism' 2 keep from feeling like 'just another brick in the wall'?
What is the new 'alt'? I feel like I must answer this question in order to move forward as a blog.
Alt is dead?
I just got done watching this bro 'cover' Grizzly Bear's hit 2k9 anthem 'Two Weeks', and I couldn't help but wonder if this bro has single-handedly proven that we no longer need the Grizzly Band Bears as an alternative resource of indie music.
When I think of Grizzly Bear, I think of 'pleasant tunes', 'tons of harmonies', and 'a high production value.' It seems like this bro has 'outdone' the actual band Grizzly Bear, since he was able to produce all of these by himself in his living room. Most alternative people will eternally remember 'Two Weeks' as the catchiest song of the year 2k9, but now we will remember it as being performed by some bro in a living room (who most likely attended some sort of gifted and talented school 4 the arts).
The modern world is a beautiful place, where one bro can buy multiple instruments, musical production equipment, and a lil viddy cam in order to outshine an indie pop masterpiece. While we often focus on bands which have established brands, we fail to see that sometimes magic moments can come together on a d.i.y. budget. Perhaps the future of indie music will not go down the same road as mainstream music [via over-reporting widely known band brands until hollow artists are created], but instead we will embrace individual moments of brilliance and musicianship [via the bro playing an xylophone/drums/singing harmonies].
Is Grizzly Bear still a valuable indie resource or has this bro rendered them obsolete?
Do u think that his bro should 'join a band' or is it 2 difficult to work with other ppl?
So many questions in my head. Decided to use some 'vlog therapy' 2 get all of my questions off my chest.
Am I a 'failing bro'?
Are my life experiences unique, or should the keyboard cat meme 'play me off'?
Should I goto Parsons, SVA or Pratt?
Will I learn the things I need 2 learn in a fancy skewl, or should I stay at a state school even though I h8 all of my mainstream classmates who don't 'get' why the world is beautiful in the way that I see it?
What should I study in design school?
Do I h8 my parents for not being rich enough 2 support my dreams?
How do college loans work?
Whenever I do something vulnerable on the internet, am I just a meme?
Play me off, yall. Gnite world/moon.
Hey yall. Went away to design school...had 2 take summer school because I needed to learn the Fundamentals of Art History and Photoshop. Fortunately I met a few bros who I have a lot in common with. We love music, design, and youtubin'. Know it's not much, but I think it's good to stay creative.
Decided to make a video. Do u like it? Glad we all have the same personal brand of 'bros who are zany and possibly listen to mightmightybosstones/blink182/Tom Green 'bum bum song.'
Dorm life is chill. My parents didn't cook much, so I'm not missing any food. Getting used to sharing space with some1. My roommate is a real mainstreamer. Going to talk to my RA about changing my roommate. Hopefully I can pull a double-swap with a bro who I have a lot in common with. Every nite would be a sleepover, and we could play chill music while we study instead of having to use headphones.
Feel lucky to have to take summer school. Probably gonna have a 'core group of friends' before every1 else gets here. so I'm happy 4 that.
What r u and ur bros doing to 'pass the time' in the summer?
Do u have any tips for selecting a sweet college roommate?
Enough said, yall. This is about more than just 1 man. This is about social media/blogs/twitter/facebook/myspace. Worried abt 'all da haterz' and 'trolls.'
I have been listening to some of 2k9's most relevant artists/songs, including "Cheerleader" by the Grizzly Bear. I think that the song is 'chill' but I think that in our new era, u can always find a way to dance, even if a song is sorta conceptual/chill. I am not sure what this bro is all about. I think he might be one of those bros who has a post-post-pre-ironic internet personality, just trying to be 'a think piece' on the internet 2 set himself apart from 'every other loser with a mnstrm facebook profile.'
Sorta just wanna chill, be myself on the internet. Have people 'find my vid' when they search 4 their fave band on youtube. Possibly 'become an altmeme.' Might film my cock coming out of my Am Appy briefs and 'tugging' til I cum with a 2k7 electro song in the background.
XX BONUS ANCO BRO SPORT MEME XX
Wonder if these are 'the two best songs' of 2k9? Feel like it is 'entry level' to enjoy 'Two Weeks' + 'My Girls' the most.
Kinda feels weird how these 2 bands are 'tied 2gether' in the conquest for the 'best' album experience of 2k9. Not even sure what the 'best album' of 2k9 is. Wonder what 'the internet pundits' will say is the best album of 2k9. Feel like people will pick Grizzly Bear because they are 'very personal bros', and from what I have learned, personal connections 'mean everything.' While people 'love' anco, they are still not entirely engaging bros, nor could u imagine having a 'chill convo' with them. I think that people who pick the Dirty Projjies to be the best album of 2k9 will be the 'type of music reviewing bros who are ghey/don't get girls in real life and feel closer 2 women by enjoying female artists.' Think this might be the theory that explains why St. Vincent is 'relevant.'
Might start typing 'keywords' about posts instead of 'writeups.'
Keywords: Tween, swoopy bangs, parent's backyard, MGMT, Kids, Pissing, Cumming, shitting on urself, dancing around, youtube sensations, opening up a t-shirt shop once u get enough hits on the internet, lil bro, kids who hear MGMT's "Kids" and totally relate, having a zany personal brand during ur tweenage year, bros who think they are pretty, water hoses, zany lil bro, kids who are inspired by Andy Samberg era humor as opposed to Tom Green era humor, FGGT, lil cunt, lil FGGT
I had a really rough day yesterday, and I said some things that I regret. I'm not ashamed of yall. Do u forgive me? Seriously feel like this is 'becoming a serious relationship.' I just know that I want to be with u. Sometimes I see something, and it just reminds me of u. like ur the 1st person I think about when I see a viral alt meme, and I'm not sure if I could keep living without this world of ppl who don't 'get' me.
"When I'm with u, I feel like I could die and that would be alright."
-my third eye is blind, yall
I want to be a teen again
and make love
to a girl in my Speech class
accidentally 'get her pregnant.'
Her belly will swell with life
that came from my teenage semen
too late to pull up
but experiencing xtreme pleasure
She will eventually have to go to a high school for pregnant teens
and make friend with other people who are in her situation
we will say that 'this was a gift from God'
and name our child something Biblical
Before the baby comes out of her vagina,
we shall use my digital camera to film a few videos
that people can relate 2
and they can know that 'we are human'
even though we did something unconventional
by having a babie so earlie.
We have a story to share
We can still laugh
We can still dance like no1 is watching
We can birth like we've never been hurt.
This is what it means to be young and beautiful.
It is a state of mind.
We will become youtube famous and get 100,000 subscribers
and make 'mad ad revenue' by 'going viral'
My water breaks
rush to the hospital with my 19 year old boyfriend
and my mom
holding my hand as the baby pops out
She looks at me, pretty ashamed
She looks at my boyfriend, pretty resentful
Worried about the financial burden
that she didn't really 'sign up for'
There is no such thing as a mistake.
We are all gifts from God.
I read in a book that babies come out 'intelligent'
if they listen 2 music while in the womb.
not sure if u can still 'partie'
when ur preggos
Did yall know that the new iPod shuffle 'talks 2 u.'
This is a funnie video that 'makes fun of altbros who listen to indie & alternative music' on iPod shuffles.
I think that this video is 'funnie' because I 'get' all of the 'jokes' that they make about how zany our modern world is. It seems like they really have a finger on the pulse of technology, youtube humor, musical tastemakers, the musical meme economy, and Apple product humor. This bro is the embodiment of a post-altbro, who graduated from college and was fortunate enough to get a 'decent job in the city.' His life is kinda meaningful, but he is still searching for 'something' [via consumer choices].
I kinda wish people would stop making 'jokes' about P4k rankings. If u really 'understand' the the world, u would realize that pitchfork rankings are actually really important in sculpting our alternative world.
Just need more web media that 'makes fun of hipsters.' More whimsical commentary on modern culture and related topics. Might design a graphic or bingo board or some other meme.
Miss u Hipster Olympics era. need 2 coin a new term for a 'generation who uses the internet and likes to express themselves.'
How about 'Generation T' for when today's Tweens grow up?
need help.
kinda bored. decided 2 make a random video. put my mom's black panty hose over my face and make it seem 'more conceptual.' I decided to pick a poppy, upbeat song by the Crystal Castles that would make it EZ 2 dance 2. I'm a pretty artistic bro, so I just wanted a nontraditional song that would allow me to showcase innovative dance moves that u usually can't execute at a local dance club without 'pissing off' bros who are just there to 'grind on bitches.'
Wish more ppl would realize that dancing is actually an art. It's not just a drunken display of 'expressing urself.' I miss 2k7. Back then, it seemed like more ppl let themselves d.a.n.c.e. :-(
"People Don't Dance No More." -the Raptures
I came up with an original poem
"dance like no1 is watching
love like u've never been hurt
sing like no1 is listening
live like itz heaven on Earth"
Just want 2 dance like no1 is watching
but record it on my Macbook
then upload it to youtube
and let ppl watch it
guess i knew they were watching the whole time
even tho they weren't rlly there
Actually just designed a tshirt which I will market to 'Christians' and miscellaneous 'generic white people.' "Blog like no1 is reading." -Carles, 2009
srsly tho.. do yall think that 'dancing' will 'come back', or has it been dead+inauthentic since the disco implosion?
I was recently browsing the internet, and I saw this meme being blogged/blurbed about in multiple outlets. In the video, a group of free-spirited moms without kids who formed a band instead play the song "Kids" by MGMT on multiple iPhone applications.
Is this just some sort of 'marketing gimmick'? Did some ad agency pick 'girls who look interesting' to promote Apple/applications/the band MGMT? Should MGMT sue these people for using their song without their consent? Am I supposed to think that this is 'cool' or that it is 'oddly entertaining'? Should part of me want to 'cum' with these broads because they are 'talented and beautiful'?
N e ways... their cover is pretty poopy. It sort of sounds like 8 year olds who just got a 3 octave keyboard 'learning that they love music and want to make it for the rest of their livez bc they did a cover of a popular song.' Makes me kinda sad. Just wish there wasn't this space on the internet where products could be showcased in what appears to be 'an organic cauldron of buzz', but it's really just people looking 2 sell u something.
Is "Kids" by MGMT going to be used for the next 200 years in the background of commercials that need 2 be 'upbeat'?
"Control yalls selves
take only what yall need from yall." -the MGMT
So there I was. The party was winding down, but I felt like I still had a chance to get tugged 2nite. I was gonna stay around and keep nursing some beers, maybe nonchalantly working my way on to the impromptu dance floor if the right song came on. Tired of the group of people huddling around a laptop playing mainstream songs and rap songs. I needed some one to play a more obscure indie hit to prove to some one worth tugging me that I listened to alternative music. Then came on a song by a new buzzband called The MGMT - Kids.mp3. It was accessible, fun and danceable. I worked my way on to the dance floor, closed my eyes, and danced.
If my personal brand is strong enough, I have a chance to make tonight meaningful.
Will I get tuggled 2nite?
XX BONUS Great Moments in Festival Bros XX
[Seen left to right: Cargo Shorts Bro, Shirtless Festivalcore Bro, Tramp Stamp Bro]
I am just a music blog trying to pave the way 4 the future.
It's kinda weird how we're all just 'one man' but we all have the power to do a lot--at least since the internet took over the world. For example, I can start a dot-com with one of my best bros, and we can have interviews with our fave altCelebs.
One day, u can start a blog, and u can talk with one of your idols about his music.
Interview tips:
Be a chill bro.
Wear a zany hat.
Be professional.
Let the artist know that they meet your high standards
Don't be afraid to be critical to their face.
Ask them for permission to post this video on ur website
Encourage them to visit your website cuz they'd find it rlly kewl.
Do yall think ur gonna start an mp3 blog and get on hypemachine? Will that make u feel like 'more than just a fan.' Will u email PR companies/clubs and tell them 'I have a blog that is relevant' so that u can cover events? Will u send them a PDF file that functions as ur blog's 'press kit'?
The future of music journalism is a fight that we all must fight. We all must prove that we are more than 'just another fan.' We accept the fact that we are 'just one bro, with an opinion', but we will use a pen/keyboard/video camera to make sure that ppl know that we are CLOSER to the music than they are, and that our concert experience was the most authentic, because we understand 'the big picture' when it comes to an artist's history.
I'm not sure which 1 is the official version of the Animal Collective's new song "My Girls" (starring Macauly Culkin), but I think it might be this 1, because it showcases a massive record collection. (And also has meaningful howling for the last 10 seconds of the video.)
We are living in a Post Merriweather Post Pavillion World///
and I am a conceptual bro ///////
Here is another video of "My Girls" uploaded by youtube user FreakFolk391.
Not sure which 1 is more authentic, but I am a little bit relieved that 2k9 will require less equipment to 'follow my musical dreams' than 2k7-2k8 required. I remember back then, u had to buy a Macbook and a copy of Ableton. These days, all u need is an acoustic guitar. Kinda relieved that we are 'getting back 2 basics' because I'm not even very good at technology.
Things are getting sooo conceptual. Not sure if my primary/secondary education was progressive enough to stay afloat in this era of alt.
Does n e 1 know where I can get a 2-for-1 deal on salvia+an altBroad in a bikini?
Yall. Kinda weird how life has changed so much in the first 20 days of 2k9. I feel 'more grown up' and less interested in stuff that I used to be interested in. This includes stuff like 'partying', 'getting shitfaced', 'doing blow off my iPhone nano', 'electro music', 'DJ culture', and 'alt stuff from 2k6-2k8.'
(Note: I am still interested in tuggable skanks in any context/environment/setting, no matter what kind of babble is splurging out of their mouth.)
2k9 is a beautiful new year. I am getting more conceptual, learning to appreciate music, spending less time partying, and more time 'in nature.' [via the conceptual forest] Nature is my party animal.
"I guess this is growin up." - blinking 182 times
I'm looking forward to February so that I can stop worrying so much about this being the new year/being shellshocked about how different everything is.
I feel alone on the internet.
I want to make new friends on the internet.
I want to find people who are accepting of 'who I am on the internet', and maybe eventually have them accept 'who I am in real life.'
[I hope that when u read HIPSTER RUNOFF, it is in the same earnest tone as the Vlog Candy vlogcrew.]
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about personal branding and the internet. What can I do to network and extend my brand? I want to be more than just a blogger/youtube/myspacer/facebook page/blog commenter.
I am thinking about joining a collective group of young people, artists, and friends who have come together to communicate, to try and have some fun, to get creative and challenge eachother, to get into the world and to try new things. I think we'll really change the world. Even if it is on a small scale, if we make a few people laugh/think, it will all be worth it.
Fortunately, my parents recently purchased a video camera which they do not use, a community iMac for our living room, and a pair of scissors for me 2 style my own bangs. This will be an important project, and I will grow closer to my friends/internet acquaintances.
We will learn more about ourselves and art and the world and reality. We will communicate [via vlog].
I want to be part of something different.
I want to be part of something fun.
I want to be part of something sweet.
I want to nourish myself on Vlog Candy.
Did yall hear that they are replacing 'The Real World: Brooklyn' with the cast of the youtube series Vlog Candy? Is vlogging 'the master art'? Should I get some swoopy alt bangs?
Should I find a therapist who specializes in 'Barely Legal Teens who had a misguided vision of what life/meaning/authenticity/art was all about during their tweenhood, and are having a hard time adjusting to the modern world'? I'm having a hard time growing up, yall. Not sure if I will make it through the whole semester at my alt design school if I still think things can be meaningful, but every1 else is 'being all absurd and escapist [via substance abuse+self-destruction].'
2k9 will be all about PurgatoryAlts: Those Alts whose personal brands are stuck in social purgatory because they do not have the self-awareness nor global awareness to transcend a mainstream perspective on the world. (Mainstream perspective = believing that there is an opportunity 2 find meaning [via material things & a lil bit of over-valued self-expression].
Purgatory alts make u wonder why they exist, but purgatory alts are unable to ponder, "Why do I exist?"
[Note:FlamingTacoBroad removed the video and went on a mini=rampage in the cmmnts section.]
I wish they had Macbooks/USB webcams for Windows PCs when I was a child/tween/teen/18+ year old who is not capable of growing up.
I could express the inner 'me' that I have never been able to 'get out there.'
When I was younger, I was a bit overwhelmed by the world, I believed that inside of me was a craziness, silliness, and creativeness that no one else understood.
I felt alone in the world, with only a predictable range of clothes available for me 2 express myself.
It I had a platform with which to connect with other people, my entire life could have gone differently.
If I had access to an arsenal of free-spirited fonts, instead of just my sillie handwriting, I could have been an entirely different person.
If I had a Macbook
when I was a tween
I could have believed
in something
meaningful
(I could have believed
in myself)
